PARVESH JAI’S HIGH FASHION SUMMER/RESORT 2011 COLLECTION WAS AN INTERESTING STUDY IN DETAILING, CREATIVITY AND TEXTURES.
Bringing together two art forms of diverse beauty and genre – the Madhubani paintings of rural India and Picasso’s cubism, Parvesh Jai’s Summer/Resort 2011 line at Lakmé Fashion Week had that distinct couture touch. 3D forms, hand painting, innovative textures and designs inspired by the Indian and western art forms featured fish, cat, mouse, butterflies and insects motifs that gave the outfits that unconventional fashionable touch.
The collection called “Rural Species” was aimed at the resort wear market with sheer chiffon, silk and georgette in undersea shades of blue, green, aqua, orange, cream, red and black made an impact on the ramp.
The collection opened with a dazzling animal motif bodice followed by glittering shoulders for a floating beach cover. Kaftans with side embellishments, knee length sheer ponchos with fish motif, imposing crystal work for shoulders on maxis, and patchwork appliqué shrugs were unconventional. Birds with multi coloured feathers positioned on the yoke of the garments were the focal point for some of the ensembles while an embroidered bikini and cover will be an eye catching choice on the sands. The saris were few but as multi embellished with gotta borders and prints and matched the rest of the collection story.
The showstopper was the lovely Geeta Basra in an ornate lehenga with a heavily worked dupatta and cholis.
Parvesh Jai made a dramatic fashion statement on the ramp for the resort wear season with their “Rural Species” collection which was an intricate but careful study of 3D detailing on various parts of the ensembles like the bold glittering yokes, bodices, bustiers, clutches and shoes worn by the models.
