2008 will be a memorable year for the Bachchan collaboration. SARKAR RAJ’s collection broke the summer stigma. The sequel made more money in the first 3 days than the first film made totally. And it’s still running. PVR & other distributors are celebrating their first success this year. Papa B’s other outing, Bhootnath also did well & Baby B’s DRONA is next in line. Of course, 2008 has been Bahu B’s year so far. From wowing the world on the Cannes red carpet to starring in two of the year’s biggest hits so far, Aishwarya is the real “rani” (queen) of bollywood. She has been praised by both media & critics for playing Queen of India ‘Jodhaa bai ’ in superhit Jodhaa Akbar

Apni Rani Mukherjee, though, hasn’t been able to draw the crowds yet. “For the second time this year, a Yashraj film hasn’t opened well. Bookings are below average & crowd is no more interested in Rani & Saif, with those kids. It’s sad because the movie isn’t that bad”, says Singh (distributor). Seems the studio needs more than just ‘thoda’ pyar to create any magic at box office.

BIG STARS FLOP ON SMALL SCREEN
It’s official! only Big B can rule small screen, no one else.
The show which kicked off the trend, Amitabh Bachchan’s KAUN BANEGA CROREPATI? averaged TV rating (TVR) of 14.13 , generated national hysteria, even KBC 2 managed a TVR of 11.14 for 13 weeks, yet again proving popularity of BACHCHAN.
Shahrukh Khan, who reportedly got 25 crore for KBC:3 , could only deliver an average TVR of 6.8 for 13 weeks .His asking rate has shot up to a reported Rs 40 crore for “kya aap paanchvi paas se tez hain?”. But Paanchi Paas has average TVR of just 2.5 , which is lower than most of Saas bahu soaps on small screen. DUS ka DUM , Salman Khan’s first TV show , averaged a TVR of 2.6 in its first 3 weeks, marginally ahead of Paanchvi Paas. Thus after the failure of Shahrukh & Salman, Audience is expecting least from Akshay ‘KHILADI’ Kumar as he too is coming with his reality show on small sceen.
