England vs Sri Lanka, ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Match prediction

It is expected to be yet another batting deck when England take on Sri Lanka on Friday in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. While hosts England have come back strongly after their loss to Pakista, winning three successive games, the Lankans have won only one game in the tournament so far and are on 6th place after five matches. Two games were washed out due to rain as well, which means they now have 4 points.

The game tomorrow, seeing the recent form of the two teams, is tilted heavily in favour of the home team. England have been led by their batters brilliantly, with Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy and Jos Buttler all getting a hundred. Jonny Bairstow has seemed to miss out, but did score a good knock of 90 against the Afghanistan side, which should give him the confidence going forward. Their bowlers too have not failed to impress, with Jofra Archer leading the wicket-taking charts for the team. Players like Liam Plunkett, Mark Wood and Chris Woakes have been economical, and can be among the wickets when they are up against an inconsistent team.

The Lankans have been below par with only Kusal Perera and Dimuth Karunaratne raising their hands up. Players like Thisara Perera, Lasith Malinga and Angelo Mathews have drastically disappointed, and unless they can pull up their socks, yet another defeat awaits them. The lack of bench strength, the inability to play as a unit and the absence of any fighting spirit means that England are the overwhelming favourites for this game.
