Australia lost for the first time in the semi-finals of any World Cup, as they were bulldozed by England in the second semi-final at Edgbaston today. After opting to bat first, the defending champions were able to notch up only 223 runs, as Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid picked up 3 wickets each to send the Kangaroos on the back-foot.

In reply, the English batters made light work of the target, with openers Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy putting up a solid foundation. They eventually chased down the target with eight wickets and 17.5 overs to spare.

England, who last played a World Cup semi-final back in 1992, where they had lost to Pakistan, will take on New Zealand in the summit clash on Sunday. Both teams have never won a World Cup before, and cricket fans are elated that there will be a new champion on 14th July.

Here is how Twitter reacted.
