England announce squad for one-off Test against Ireland later this month

England's first cricket assignment after winning the World Cup 2019 will be a one-off Test match against Ireland that will be played at Lord's from July 24. It will be a four-day game, and will act as a preparation for the Ashes that begins from August 1.

Jason Roy is likely to make his Test debut when England face-off against Ireland for a one-off Test match later this month at Lord's. The English opener had smashed 443 runs from seven innings in the recently concluded World Cup that his team won, and found a place in the ICC Men's World Cup XI, that was announced after the event ended.

However, a few faces from the World Cup-winning squad are missing for the game against Ireland. Man of the Man in the final, Ben Stokes, has been rested alongside Jos Buttler, while Mark Wood is nursing a side strain, which will see him out of action for six weeks. Jofra Archer too is not selected, and has been given rest ahead of the Ashes. He is likely to return to his hometown Barbados for a few days, before he resumes his national duties.

Along with Roy, Lewis Gregory too received a maiden Test call-up. He had a good run in the County Championship, where he scalped 44 wickets and scored 363 runs with the bat for Somerset recently.

Olly Stone too has been named for the Test against Ireland after having recovered from a stress facture that saw him return home from England's tour of West Indies in January.

The four-day Test between England and Ireland will be held from July 24.
