Vintage - Guru Dutt, Geeta Dutt, Waheeda Rehman pics
The year was 1953 when Guru Dutt fell head over heels for singer Geeta Dutt. The couple was in love with each other and tied the knot on May 26, 1953. While the latter was already a famous singer of her time then, the former was still a struggling director.
This led to some serious rumours and Guru asked his wife to stop singing for others. Though she continued with her passion without her husband's knowledge, but that did not last for long and she finally quit singing for other productions.
It was in 1956 when Guru decided to mentor a newcomer, Waheeda Rehman, and launched her with his movie 'C.I.D.'.
This led to rumours about their affair and Geeta was not happy with that. To balance things out, Guru decided to launch Geeta as an actress with his movie 'Gauri' in 1957. But by that time, the singer was so upset with the rumors of her husband's affair, that she refused to work in the film and the shooting was just a few days after it started.
What followed next was tension at home. And then the divorce. The couple ended their 11 year marriage in 1964.
Guru and Waheeda did a handful of projects together including 'Pyaasa', 'Kaagaz Ke Phool', 'Chaudhvin Ka Chand' and 'Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam'.
The director was found dead in his apartment on October 10, 1964. It was his third suicide attempt. It is said that he died of mixing alcohol and sleeping pills.
