Varun Dhawan's family not happy that he is a gay icon?
Though Varun Dhawan shot to stardom with SOTY, and father David is happy for him, David is apparently concerned about Varun’s popularity with men.
John Abraham, was previously the unanimous gay icon, male sex symbol from the industry. But as it appears, Varun may give him a run for his money. David apparently has noticed that Varun has more male fans than female ones, with many men who walk up to him and confess how much they admire him.
The Dhawan family being conservative, were not too happy about this, it seems.
Varun Dhawan however revealed to Stardust, that he doesn't mind being a gay icon:
"Its Cool. All people are equal according to me. My aim as an actor is to reach everyone. And even they're a part of the audience as well. I want to be appealing to them as well."
