Upcoming biopics in South Cinema 2019: From NTR to Jayalalithaa, films that are a must watch

2019 is going to be another interesting year for the moviegoers. The new year has kick-started on a positive note for many and the celebrities are looking forward to deliver some best of cinema experience for the movie buffs. South Indian cinema will see a slew of biopics releasing this year. Some of the biopics have been the talk of the town since its inception. With multiple biopics in the pipeline in Tollywood and other languages, 2019 seems to be an exciting year. From NTR biopic to Yatra based on YS Rajasekhara Reddy, here's the list of big upcoming biopics of 2019.

Jayalalithaa:

A film on the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and movie star J Jayalalithaa is currently in the making. The biopic will see Nithya Menen playing the role of Jayalalithaa and has been titled as, The Iron Lady. The shooting for the film will go on the floors on February 24, 2019. The first look of the film was released in December 2018. 

Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy: 

Chiranjeevi will be seen playing the role of Rayalaseema freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy in the upcoming biopic, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. Directed by Surender Reddy, the film also stars Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and is expected to be released during Dussehra in 2019

NTR biopic:

One of the most awaited biopics of 2019 is, NTR biopic. The biopic has been titled NTR Kathanayakudu and is all set to release in January. Starring Vidya Balan, Rana Daggubati, Rakul Preet Singh among other, NTR biopic will be released in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi since NTR was a popular figure across India in films and political circles. 

Yatra: Malayalam megastar Mammootty would be seen playing former Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy in the politician’s biopic. The film is being directed by young filmmaker Mahi Raghav. Titled Yatra, the biopic will see many biggies together. 

Pullela Gopichand:

Sudheer Babu will be seen as the former Indian badminton player Pullela Gopichand in the upcoming biopic. The shooting of the film is expected to go on floors in a few months and is slated to release by the end of this year. 

Kunjali Marakkar:

Mohanlal-Priyadarshan film on Kunjali Marakkar is in the news since its inception. Being made on a huge budget, the film will star Mohanlal in the lead role. On the other hand, Mammootty’s Kunjali Marakkar IV, which is based on a similar subject, is being directed by Santosh Sivan.
