SOTY Is a Hit- Monday Brings Cheer After A Strong Domestic & Overseas Opening
Critics were hesitant about Student of the Year despite being directed by Karan Johar due to the unknown cast and the unavoidable comparisons with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Yet, the movie has had a very good beginning collecting Rs. 28.43 crores in its first weekend.
Mid-Day reports that the movie collected Rs. 8.89 crores on Friday, Rs. 9.36 crores on Saturdary, and Rs. 10.99 crores on Monday. Noted film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#SOTY passes the 'Monday test' with flying colors. Collects *approx* 5 cr nett on Monday. Excellent." indicating that the strong opening was not a fluke.
Accolades are pouring in for KJo for having done such a good job directing the movie. He single-handedly took charge of promotion and created a big buzz around a movie that did not have a high profile star cast.
Considering the movie has collected 1.3 million/ Rs 6.95 crores from the international market in its opening weekend, analysts have no hesitation in declaring SOTY as a hit.
