Sorry Varun Dhawan, here’s why we miss Salman Khan in Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12 reboot
Here’s why the recreated version of Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12 did not live upto the expectations.
Varun Dhawan starrer Judwaa 2’s first song Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12 released today and for those who lived and breathed 90s music, it will leave you underwhelmed. Especially when the original starring Salman Khan's energy was out of the box in the song.
Given that there were high expectations from the song, Varun Dhawan’s despite getting his quirky moves right couldn’t recreate the 90s feel. Varun Dhawan’s club number failed to do justice to this highly energetic song which still gets you grooving with its upbeat music and peppy lyrics.
Varun does try to attempt a Salman Khan in few places which will make you wish to see both Varun and Salman shake a leg to it together.
Well, first the positives, the song is extremely high on energy and has a strong recall value as the makers have kept the music intact.
While Varun as Prem does give us a similar vibe as Salman Khan, it is the stark difference between the original and sequel’s Raja that has been bothering point. Varun as Raja is too groomed and styled, while Judwaa’s Raja was raw and loud mouth. A ‘tapori’ with a golden heart who did those crazy moves.
Here’s why we think Varun couldn’t pull off a Salman Khan in the popular song.
1. Tapori dance: If you are a 90s kid, you would recollect the quirky dance moves by Salman in the song. The steps were raw and had the street style feel to it while Varun’s is more contemporary and well choreographed. Moreover, Karisma Kapoor’s energy and moves in the song remain unparalleled.

2. Music: The recreated version is a club number while the original was a stage performance number and hence the music varies. However, the new version fails to add the 90s touch to the song which is a letdown. Not that the song isn’t peppy but it is nowhere close to the original which was more rustic.

3. Costumes: Keeping true to his character, Salman Khan who was seen essaying a ‘tapori’ Raja, sported some funny costumes for the performance. He even wore a net crop ganji. Now, who would pull that off with such conviction? Nope, No one!
On the other hand, Varun as Raja has all the looks and far more groomed and styled.

There is no doubt that there could've been a better choice than Varun to recreate these characters on celluloid yet again but we wished Varun as Raja was more nonchalant and reckless. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
