Rebel with a Cause: How Taylor Swift 2.0 has transformed the singer's Reputation
From being Time's Person of the Year to Reputation, Taylor Swift is the true-blood queen of 2k17.
"You're the reason for the teardrops on my guitar."
Back in 2010, with a guitar in hand, in a pretty red dress and red lips stood a crispy blonde haired beauty standing on top of a New York cab crooning to You Belong With Me at Radio City Music Hall.
It was back then that the singer garnered millions of followers and while she is an inspiration to many, she has also been subjected to a lot of hate especially regarding her personal life.
From Harry Styles to Jake Gyllenhaal, no ex has been spared when it comes to being song inspirations for her songs and hence media has pitted her as a user and her reputation was that of a woman who only dates to make chart-topping numbers.
It became worse last year when Swift dated Tom Hiddleston for a summer romance which ended as quickly as it started and that led to the 28-year-old singer going MIA for the longest time with fans worrying about their idol.
It got worse when Swift suddenly deleted all her Instagram posts which led to a fan frenzy with various conspiracy theory going rampant.
And then came the Reputation era!
"I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, 'cause she's dead!"
What started with the video of a snake hissing went on to sell millions of records and topped the charts which were not surprising at all. But with her sixth album, Reputation, Taylor 2.0 rose from the ashes and came a strong, independent and badass woman who was back with a vengeance. A Rebel with a Cause who is breaking her goody-two-shoes persona and in the process making edgy music that is being loved by all.
When Taylor dropped the music video for her first single Look What You Made Me Do; the track was a tight slap to all the haters who have questioned the singer throughout her career. With easter eggs throughout the music video, Taylor reigned supreme.
From the look to the lyrics as well as the personality, Taylor 2.0 is here to stay!
"There will be no further explanation. There will just be reputation."
When it comes to her personal life, it looks like Taylor is keeping it low profile as she gets serious with British star Joe Alwyn, who seems like the perfect boyfriend for Swift.
However, what was the most prominent moment for the birthday girl in 2017? It was her civil trial against a former radio DJ for KYGO, David Meuller. Taylor Swift had complained about Denver radio DJ David Mueller for grabbing her ass during an event which led to Mueller being fired. When David sued Swift for millions, Taylor countersued him for $1.
During the trial, Mueller's lawyer tried to make Taylor feel responsible for his firing, the singer gave it right back saying, "I'm not going to let you or your client make me feel in any way that this is my fault. I'm being blamed for the unfortunate events of his life that are a product of his decisions. Not mine."
"When I testified, I had already had to watch this man’s attorney bully, badger and harass my team, including my mother … I was angry. In that moment, I decided to forgo any courtroom formalities and just answer the questions the way it happened. This man hadn’t considered any formalities when he assaulted me … Why should I be polite? I’m told it was the most amount of times the word ass has ever been said in Colorado federal court," Taylor revealed to Time Magazine as she was named as one of Time's Person of the Year.
Eventually, Taylor won the battle and in the process raised hope for women who have gone through a similar situation but were not able to speak about it.
