Padmavati: Here's why Ranveer Singh will steal the spotlight as Alauddin Khilji
Ranveer Singh puts on his menacing act as Alauddin Khilji in Padmavati.
With bated breaths, we waited as the trailer of Padmavati was unveiled at 13:03 pm today. Everyone was left stunned to silence as we saw the colourful personality of one Ranveer Singh's extreme transformation into the maniacal Alauddin Khilji.
While the hero and the heroine are always the main attraction, this time Sanjay Leela Bhansali keeps the evil antagonist Alauddin Khilji in the spotlight.
Ranveer, who is known to get deep into a character did just that with Khilji. And boy, are we impressed!
From the dreadlocks to the makeup, from the attires to the devilish pride, from the macho physique to the self-obsession, Ranveer is Alauddin and Alauddin is Ranveer.
You can see the hard work that has been put by Bhansali and Ranveer to provide justice to exactly how Alauddin was - plain true blood menace to the world.
While Bhansali has kept the dialogues at a minimum for the three-minute long trailer to let the cast, chilling background score and situations take the lead, both Deepika and Shahid are seen reciting hard-hitting dialogues. On the contrary, it is Ranveer's eyes that say it all - PRIDE and OBSESSION. Sometimes, actions speak way louder than words ever could.
You can see the stark difference between Shahid's Maha Rawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer's Alauddin Khilji.
We also got a slight glimpse at a younger Alauddin with saffron colour smudged on his face and then we see the transformation to Khilji wearing the crown with one mission on his mind - Rani Padmavati.
Hats off to you, Ranveer Singh!
Recently speaking about his role in Padmavati, Ranveer told a publication, "It was a very difficult character to play. I am a people pleaser, admittedly. I like to spread cheer and laughter. I like to keep the atmosphere light – even if it means making stupid jokes and acting silly and crass. But, when I became Alauddin Khilji for the movie, there’s no trace of that person. Some actors are that way, where the external starts to affect the internal. At some point during filming, everybody realized that at one point in the morning you’ll have Ranveer and the rest of the day will be Khilji. My whole energy changed. Which is good, because at least I know I’m doing an honest job in the film. But, yeah, I’m almost done now and I have to say what I told myself holds true to some extent. All the darkness has been lived out, it’s been addressed. It’s almost like therapy."
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Bhansali Productions, Padmavati is slated to release on December 1, 2017.
