My tryst with denim: Excerpts from Twinkle Khanna's Vogue column

Twinkle Khanna has a way with words. This is evident in her columns for various magazines. Here, the gorgeous star wife and business woman talks of her trysts with 'denim'.

Excerpts from her column from this month's Vogue:

I AM 17: I own a pair of Lee jeans. I wear this pair every day to college and try to wash it as little as possible. There are no malls at this point of time and the concept of online shopping hasn’t been invented; hence, my precious jeans cannot be replaced. It’s Sunday and I go to the racecourse with my grandfather, proudly wearing my jeans and a peach shirt from Fashion Street. My grandfather gets very excited as his horse is going to win; flings his hands about and drops a glass of ice-cold Thums-Up all over me. I have a minor breakdown in the form of snorting hiccups and before I start bawling at the racecourse my grandfather promises me that he will make a trunk call (the only form of overseas communication) to a family friend in the US and I will get a new pair when they come visiting during Christmas. Considering we are in the month of February, this is most unsatisfactory.

Lesson learned: Gambling and gamblers are best avoided.?

I AM 26: I have met the man who I will stick with for (at least) the next 20 years, though I don’t know that yet. We go on a holiday to New York and I buy a pair of Levi’s. I will also stick with these for the next 20 years, though I don’t know that yet either.

Lesson that will eventually be learned: A good-quality man and good-quality jeans may just last you a lifetime if treated well.
