Bollywood diva Aishwarya Rai Bachchan stood out amongst the bevy of international beauties at the opening of this year's Cannes Film Festival in her off shoulder white Roberto Cavalli gown.
The 35-year-old actress attended the premiere of the inaugural film 'Up' at Palais De Festival in Cannes on Wednesday with the newly announced L'Oreal world spokesperson, Elizabeth Banks.
The actress, who was accompanied by her actor husband Abhishek Bachchan, sashayed down the red carpet in the ruffled gown that accentuated her stunning figure.
Aishwarya accessorised it with red peep toe heels, swarovski red box clutch, pearl drop earrings and chunky rings.
The actress paired her designer gown with minimalistic makeup and her hair with auburn highlights, was elegantly styled in an updo.
Her latest Cannes outings are a far cry from her first appearance at the French festival where she was criticised for her bad fashion choices.
Aishwarya, who became the first Indian actress to become a part of prestigious Cannes jury in 2003, said, "As a jury member at Cannes I had the experience of enjoying cinema as it is irrespective of where it come from, who is the maker from which country which is similar to the diverse Indian cinema."

You can always rely on Cannes for full on glamour and gorgeous gorgeous dresses. For some strange reason starlets seems better at dressing for Cannes than they do the Oscars.
We can expect the most exciting stars to walk the red carpet this week, including model Lily Cole who stars in the Terry Gilliam movie ‘The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus’ alongside Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell and the late great Heath Ledger.
But yesterday’s red carpet was to welcome the judging panel to town. The judges include Robin Wright Penn who truly dazzled in a stunning silver Elie Saab gown. She looked spectacular.
Gorgeous Aishwarya Rai and Elizabeth Banks appeared hand in hand as the most glamorous twosome ever seen. Both were dressed to impress and Elizabeth’s Armani Prive gown was breathtaking. Tilda Swinton looked elegant in a maroon Haider Ackermann creation and Shu Qi was striking in a floor length teal chiffon gown, check out that necklace! Alessia Piovan and Eugenia Silva also made a full throttle effort. Asis Argento had the most unusual dress yet pulled it off sublimely. Just going on the first day it looks like the stars are keen to take fashion risks. Red carpet dressing hasn’t been too great this year so hopefully this signals a return to sharp fashion forward looks.

The Indian beauty was drop-dead gorgeous as she walked the red carpet on the opening day of the Cannes Film Festival in France on Wednesday.

Dolled up in a fetching white gown with long tails that brushed the red carpet, Aishwarya Rai was beauty personified as she posed for photographers on her way to Palais De Festival for the premiere of Pixar’s animated film ‘Up’.

Right from her hair-do to minimal jewelry and mild make-up, everything looked perfect on the former Miss World.

A regular face at Cannes since last seven years, Aishwarya is going to use her celebrity status for a good cause at the fest this year.

On March 14, that is today, Ash will address a press conference alongside Queen Noor of Jordan at Hotel Martinez to announce the third edition of the International Tribunes Cinema Verite, which is a special film event dedicated to films and social actions that promote human rights and the eight Millennium Development Goals adopted by the United Nations.

Cinema Verite this year will take place in Geneva (Oct 6 to 8) and Paris (Oct 9-10).

Ash’s hubby, Abhishek Bachchan , who is accompanying her to Cannes, will also be present at the press meet.

Ash goes white at Cannes

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Hollywood connection dates back to seven years. She first graces Cannes film festival way back in 2002 when Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Devdas’ screened at the festival. She walked the red carpet with Sanjay Leela and Shahrukh Khan. Last year too, she made an appearance with the entire Bachchan family. Everytime she walks the red carpet, she steals the limelight with her style, beauty and attire. This time too she catches the attention of the attendees with white strapless grown.
