Mahira Khan: 10 things to know about Ranbir Kapoor's rumoured new girlfriend

Mahira is in the headlines again after pictures of her with Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor went viral. The industry is abuzz that Mahira Khan is the new rumoured girlfriend of Ranbir Kapoor after his break-up with Katrina Kaif. This is the second time that the couple has been spotted; earlier, a video of them having a lovers' tiff in Dubai had gone viral. So, who is Mahira Khan? 

Voted the 10th Sexiest Asian Woman, Mahira Khan has been a popular actor in Pakistan. Her Bollywood debut was opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Raees. But before that it was her portrayal of Khirad Hussain in the hit TV serial, Humsafar, which made her a household name in our country. She starred opposite Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan in the show. Fans of Humsafar would agree that it was the simplicity of Mahira's character which made her very relatable and hence there was a craze for her when it was announced that she is the chosen one for SRK's Raees.

But just before her Bollywood debut could release, things changed for Mahira and all the Pakistani artistes working in India. There was a ban on actors and singers from the country post the Uri attack on India's soldiers, carried out by militants allegedly with Pakistan's help. Mahira, who wished to promote the film in India with SRK, wasn't able to do the same. 

Mahira went back to her country, but soon garnered all the attention when rumours started doing the rounds that Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and the Pakistani beauty have a fondness for each other.

"Ranbir and Mahira met during one of their trips abroad and got along like a house on fire. They have stayed in touch ever since," a source had told a leading daily.

The two never commented on their alleged relationship or their viral video, but yesterday pictures of Ranbir Kapoor and Mahira Khan hanging out on the streets of NYC, smoking cigarettes went viral and all hell broke loose!

1. Mahira Khan was born on 21st December 1984 in Karachi, Pakistan. 

2. Mahira Khan started her career at 16 as a model and then went on to become a VJ with MTV. At the age of 17, Mahira moved to Los Angeles, United States for further studies at the University of Southern California. When she got work offers, she didn't left USC and shifted back to Pakistan. 

3. Mahira Khan fell in love with Ali Askari in Los Angeles. After dating for a year, the two lovebirds got married in 2007. Her father was totally against the union and in spite of his disapproval, Mahira chose to marry the man of her dreams. But after eight years of togetherness and a son, Azlaan, the two decided to part ways and got divorced. Mahira is a single mother to her adorable son. In an earlier interview, Khan had said, "I do only one film at a time. My first priority is my child. So, it's a lot of hard work. But it can be done. It's all about choices. Many times I have to let go of good work. Fortunately the work I've done has worked for me."

4. Mahira Khan hosted MTV Pakistan's live show Most Wanted. In 2008, she hosted a reality show Weekends with Mahira, which was popular. 

5. Mahira Khan made her film acting debut in 2011 with the highest-grossing Urdu film, Bol, in which she played a supporting role. Bol was released in India.

6. But Mahira Khan became an overnight star when she was seen opposite Fawad Khan in a TV show called Humsafar, which was aired on Zindagi channel in India. Mahira and Fawad's jodi was popular and fans loved this Pakistani beauty.

7. In 2012, Mahira Khan was awarded the title of the Most Beautiful Woman in Pakistan. 

8. In Mahira Khan's Bollywood debut in 2017, she played the role of SRK's love interest in Raees. The actress did her best in the small role, and it was the song Zaalima that made her fans go crazy for her. 

9. Meanwhile, Mahira Khan also made headlines when an old interview clip went viral on social media wherein she was seen saying the Pakistani film industry should not be inspired by Bollywood at all. This happened at the time when Raees was about to release and she changed her stance.

10. Mahira Khan is known to be a compulsive writer and has an inclination for Urdu poetry. She is also an obsessive foodie and traveller, and her favourite holiday destination is Netherlands.
