2017 has been an interesting year as far as Bollywood is concerned. The year itself started with a bang with the nepotism debate taking over the internet followed by loose comments made by a few celebrities. Many celebrities including Priyanka Chopra, Saif Ali Khan, Virat Kohli and superstar Salman Khan made headlines for their statements but not all of them ended up stirring a controversy.

As we take a look back at the entire year, here is the curated list of the top statements made this year.

Kangana Ranaut on nepotism:

By calling Karan Johar a 'flagbearer of nepotism' Kangana Ranaut spearheaded a debate which dominated the first half of the year. As Kangana graced Karan Johar's show Koffee With Karan she was asked about her biopic. Replying to this, Kangana said, "In my biopic, if it is ever made, you will play the stereotypical villain. One who is intolerant of outsiders.. the flag-bearer of nepotism in Bollywood and movie mafia.”

Karan Johar hits at Kangana Ranaut:

With the N-bomb taking over the industry, Karan Johar who was accused of nepotism hit back at Kangana asking her to stop playing the 'woman card'. "I’m done with Kangana playing the woman and victim card. I am done! You cannot be this victim every time and have a sad story to tell about how you’ve been terrorised by the bad world of the industry … leave it," Karan said.

Hrithik Roshan on Kangana Ranaut:

While the infamous spat between Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut fueled further this year, it was the first time Hrithik came out and clarified his stand in front of the media. Among other things, Hrithik statement that this case shouldn't be seen as lovers spat made headlines. "This is not, and I repeat, not a lovers spat. I humbly request people to stop labelling it as one and, for a second, try and see it for what it really is,"  Hrithik said.

Ranbir Kapoor on his viral photo with Mahira Khan:

When Ranbir Kapoor and Mahira Khan's pictures from New York went viral, Ranbir put out a statement defending Mahira who was being trolled for smoking. In a statement, Ranbir said, "I've gotten to know Mahira in a personal capacity over the last few months. She is somebody who I admire and respect, for her achievements and even more for the person she is. It is very unfair the way she is being judged and spoken about. What is also said is the inequality in judgment just because she is a woman. I request you to stop the negativity and move on with your beautiful god gifted lives. Peace and Love."

He further added, "PS: Both smoking and hate are injurious to health."

Mira Rajput's puppy remark:

Mira Rajput who is a mother to daughter Misha Kapoor in an interview earlier this year said that she doesn't want to work for now as she wants to dedicate her time towards her daughter. She further added, "She is not a puppy, you know. I want to be there for her as a mother, seeing her grow up has, cannot be quantified." Her statement was seen as her taking a dig at working mothers.

Salman Khan's statement on war:

Salman Khan is known for stirring several controversies. While promoting his movie Tubelight, Salman was asked about his opinion on wars. Responding to it, Salman said, "I think those who order war should be sent to the war front, given guns and asked to fight first. It will stop in one day. Their hand and legs will start trembling... It will stop and they will go straight to the table and have discussions." His comment invited a lot of flak to his side from all the right-wing politicians.

Deepika Padukone on Vin Diesel:

Deepika who worked with Vin Diesel in her first Hollywood movie, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, was asked on rumours of romance brewing between her and Vin. To this, Deepika said. "Well, there is no smoke without fire! But, it’s all in my head! So yeah, I mean in my head I think, we are together and we have this amazing chemistry, and we live together and we have these amazing babies! But it’s all in my head."

Priyanka Chopra on Meghan Markle:

Meghan Meghan had featured on Vanity Fair’s cover story earlier this year but sadly, it was only her quote about her relationship with Prince Harry which made headlines. Priyanka who is a good friend of Meghan while speaking to an international daily called the sexism out and said, "I don’t [know] if I will get into trouble for this, but I have an opinion. I mean, she’s on the cover of Vanity Fair. It would have been nice to write about her not just her boyfriend. I’m just saying. I mean, she’s an actor, she’s an activist, she’s a philanthropist. I mean, she does so much more. It’s just a little sexist. Look, I’m a feminist and I love boys, okay… The only thing I’m saying is that there needs to be a certain sense of equality where a woman is not just a plus one, you know. It’s nice to be your own identity too.”

Virat Kohli calling Anushka Sharma his 'lady luck':

Virat and Anushka fondly called Virushka are one of the most adored couples. During an interview when Virat was asked who has had the most influence on him, he said, "Sir lady luck ka kamaal hai (I've got to thank the lady luck). You've (Gaurav) seen me, you know I had no brains before. Ever since the lady has come into my life, she's taught me a lot of things," he said when asked about his change in behaviour over the years.

He added, "I've learnt a lot, become more sensible in the last four years all because of her. She's taught me how to be more patient and taught me how to utilise the position you are into the fullest."

This was perhaps one of the first times that Virat got candid about Anushka.

Pahlaj Nihalani on Julie 2:

Pahlaj Nihalani who made headlines after being sacked as the Central Board of Film Certification soon announced his film Julie 2. The filmmaker defended the 'not-so-sanskari' film by saying, "It does not have scenes of obscenity or vulgarity and is a completely adult family film."
