India at the Oscars - your thoughts?

India made its presence felt at the Oscars in the form of A R rahman. Aishwarya Rai bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Mallika Sherawat and Ashutish Gowariker also walked the red carpet.

Here were the highlights.

1) Frankly I was very disappointed that the American media did not give any importance to the Bachchans. By that I mean Aishwarya Rai. I checked a lot of news sites etc and they featured Mallika Sherawat for their red carpet looks but not Aishwarya. Mallika Sherawat's photos were also released by the media as soon as she arrived. But it took a while for the Aishwarya rai photos to pop up on the net. In effect I along with a lot of netizens felt that Aishwarya did not get enough coverage from the American media. I guess Pinkvilla was the only site that gave this amount of coverage to the Bachchans at the oscars.

2) A R Rahman when asked to speak in Hindi on the red carpet told he does not speak Hindi. I was a little saddened by that because he did speak a few sentences in Hindi is his last Oscars saying Mere pass maa hai. Didn't he?. Also did't he sing Maa tujhe salaam in Hindi?. He could have just said Maa Tujhe Salaam and I would have been happy. But I am not complaining. Because I am very sure he was nervous or he didnt mean it in any bad sense.

3) Aishwarya got a B+ by the western media for her red carpet look and Mallika Sherwat got a F.

Star: Mallika Sherawat
Grade: F. The Bollywood actress is apparently trying out for the role of Oscars pageant queen, in a dress that may shimmer like a starry sky, but is brought down to earth by too many necklines, a slit too centred to be sultry and black shoes that simply don't work.
