Here is to you, Preity
Preity Zinta is cute and bubbly. She is probably gonna hate me for calling her 'bubbly' ;-) But she is what she is, cute, bubbly, charming and a brave soul. There are many layers to her character, but the whole thing is engulfed in a bubbly package.
Before I write more, may I request those of you who do not agree with my point of view do so in a civilized manner and don't take it out on Preity? Preity please ? :-)
I adored Preity Zinta the moment I saw her in a Cadbury Perk commercial and subsequently in the movie 'Shangharsh' . It was such a long time ago, feels like another life time! I don't remember much about the quality of her performance, but I remember I was enchanted by this unconventional looking pretty thing.
Over the years, she has delivered some really good performances, performances filled with life, zest and charm. Kya Kehna, Dil Se, Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya, Veer Zaara and Salaam Namaste are some of her movies I enjoyed watching. 'Salaam Namaste' is still one of my go to movies when I need to see something good, a movie filled with great music, a sparkling Preity Zinta and Saif delivering one of his best performances (though his character was kind of an a$$). Yep, I have a list of 'go to' movies I go back to again and again and again. They are like chicken soup for my tired soul, and 'Salaam Namste' is one of those movies.
Along with some unforgettable performances, Preity has done some good humanitarian work over the years, putting her fame and celebrity status to good use. Her stance on women's rights, AIDS awareness and prevention as well as taking a stand against the mafia when big guys from Bollywood chickened out earns her my respect. She also happens to be incredibly well dressed. One of the original couture wearing fashionistas of B'Town, she has done good and looked great while doing it.
She is turning 38 in a month and half, and she is single, in India. She deserves a medal for that alone! I mean seriously, people can be so obnoxious about it there, a single gal in her thirties! People are even obnoxious about it in western countries, otherwise they wouldn't have 'Sex and the City' and 'Bridget Jones' Diary'.
So here is to you Preity. Here is to you for being a great actor, a successful movie star, a good human being, an entrepreneur, and for being fabulous and taking a stand for single women in India and everywhere.
I do look forward to your first home production, even though you have postponed it for the umpteenth time. I don't want to sound preachy, but do hang in there. You have the love and support of people who admire you and there are a great many of us who do.
XOXO
