Discussion: Do stars lead a lonely life?
The world woke up yesterday morning with the news of the sad demise of funny man Robin Williams. The legendary actor was suffering from severe depression and is said to have committed suicide.
So is it that even among all the glitz and glamour our celebrities lead a lonely life and are suffering from deep depression and insecurities. We won’t be wrong in saying that the situation in Bollywood is far better, but still we have heard of so many suicide cases in B’Town as well.
Guru Dutt, Parveen Babi, Silk Smitha and Nafisa Joseph are a few celebrities who took their life.
Think of it, thousands (which is still a small number) fans crazy about them, sending them fan mails, and with the technological advancement even tweeting them and sending messages on Facebook, but sometimes is that really enough?
And honestly sometimes that doesn’t matter at all. Let me give an example of a common man. Even when he/she is surrounded by ten of his/her friends, there always a missing place, which they can’t fill. We need one person, a true love or a true friend may be, whose presence just makes everything seem alright. You know that you are not alone, you know there is someone to take care of you when things go wrong, you know this person will always be there, come what may.
Though we live in a culture which just ties us close to our family, which makes us talk to our parents, siblings, etc, but then again is that always enough. There is always a void in our hearts which only someone special or may be a very close friend can fill, because you know they are always there.
Film industry is one place where it’s difficult to make friends. Even our celebrities have confessed it a lot of times that they are not here to make friends. And honestly, you cannot be best of friends with someone working at the same place like you, and even if sometimes it does happen, after a while there comes a lot of differences, a lot of unresolved issues, and then suddenly you are not friends anymore.
And there is also the biggest enemy of any relationship “jealousy”. Come on we are not god that we will appreciate someone’s success, even if we are happy, there is this tiny part of us that thinks “I wish it was me”. And film industry is so big, there is so much competition, movies slipping from one’s hand and going into others, all these factors are reasons of not being friends with someone.
Also there comes a point in your life when you have everything, you have done all that you wanted to do, achieved everything you wanted, and suddenly you realise your life is goal-less, you have nothing to do, and you start feeling worthless even after so much success. That’s the first step towards depression. That’s when your mind signals you, and sometimes we control it, but a lot of times it takes control of us.
That brings us to the topic of our discussion, do our stars lead a lonely life, do they have their special someone with them or better to say do they have any true friends at all. What do you think?
