Dhadak: Here’s why Ishaan Khatter-Janhvi Kapoor’s film is NOT a Sairat
Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor's Dhadak is the official Hindi adaptation of 2016's Marathi hit film Sairat. The original film starred Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru in the lead roles and was directed by Nagraj Manjule.
Finally, the D-day has come and Sairat's official Hindi adaptation Dhadak has hit the screens. The film marks the debut of Janhvi Kapoor in Bollywood and she is romancing the talented Ishaan Khatter in the film. Since the time it was announced that Karan Johar is producing Sairat's Hindi adaptation with Shashank Khaitan as the director, comparisons started flowing in, much before the release of the film. Well, that was ought to happen as Sairat created a special place not only in the hearts of Marathi people but also movie lovers from other regions as well.
We got a chance to watch the film and tried to have a déjà vu feeling during the time we watched Sairat. Interestingly, Khaitan gave Dhadak an original feel and the approach towards the same plot was different too.
But, as we love comparing every possible thing, let's do it with Sairat and Dhadak as well!
1. It's about class and not caste
Sairat was the story based on casteism, where the girl is of a higher caste and the guy from the lower caste. Moreover, the guy played by Akash Thosar was way poorer than the girl (Rinku Rajguru).
In Dhadak, both the characters' family owned a hotel business. Janhvi's family owned a high-end restaurant with five star feels while Ishaan's was a normal restaurant with a middle-class approach.
The basic plot was the same but the essence was different.
2. The approach towards the plot
We have to admit that Shashank kept the flavour of his former movies in Dhadak. The film was adapted well from Sairat but he made sure that people who have watched the original will not feel like they are re-watching it.
3. Intensity
Dhadak has several lighter moments throughout the film till the climax. Sairat gets intensified in the second half and maintains that beautiful pace until the movie ends.
4. Supporting cast
Dhadak has given amazing importance to the supporting cast and not treated them just as catalysts. From the main leads' parents to friends to landlords in Kolkata, each had a story to tell which built up the whole movie. While in Sairat the supporting cast was shown meeting at one point and leads the movie forward.
5. Climax
Yes, it is a different climax and it will leave you numb and break your heart the same way it did while watching Sairat.
