Here's why Salman Khan's Tubelight might not connect with the audience as much as Bajrangi Bhaijaan

Here's why we think Salman Khan's Tubelight might not be able to garner the same appreciation as Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

Let's be honest, Salman Khan movies are all about larger than life characters, goofy dance steps which are topped with Salman infectious onscreen charm. However, as a refreshing change (if we may say so), Salman has shed his 'macho' persona for Tubelight to play this rather vulnerable man-child character, Laxman Singh Bisht.

While the early trailer and teasers of the movie hinted at Salman's character to be similar as Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the stark difference between the two, sky-high expectations and the seemingly poor storyline speaks a different story.

Even as a Salman Khan movie generally comes with BLOCKBUSTER  written over it even before it releases, here is the reason why we think Tubelight might not resonate with the audience as much as Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

1. Man-child character: Salman Khan as Bajrangi was gullible. Even though he wasn't very heroic, his innocence was convincing and the storyline was weaved in a way which instantly hit all the right emotional notes. However, with Tubelight, it's difficult to see a 50-year old actor, known for his machoism play such a childlike character. Also, what makes it more excruciating is that not many would connect to this emotions well.

2. India-China backdrop: What really worked for Bajrangi Bhaijaan was the Indo-Pak subtext to its narrative. It is well known that an India-Pakistan subtext as against an India-China (like in Tubelight) helps bring out the right emotions every time. While the political statement in the movie is loud and clear, it might not be able to espouse the expected emotions from the audience.

3. Not so Dabangg: Tubelight exposes the vulnerable side of Bhai, way too much. His fans love him in his Dabangg avatar and hoot-worthy style and the lack of machoism in Tubelight might leave the fans to feel underwhelming. After all, a Bhai movie is all about extravagance and a lack of that might leave fans feeling a void.

4. An overdose of sibling love: Salman's  loyal fans have been fed with him romancing his leading ladies like a boss. However, in Tubelight it is all about loving your sibling. While it does manage to emote the right emotions at some level, an overdose of that somehow makes the experience a little frustrating.

Well, that's about it!

However, if you want to see Salman's most earnest performance and enjoy an emotional rollercoaster ride, Tubelight has all the elements.
