Tubelight: Salman Khan-Sohail Khan's jodi - Will it work this time?
Directed by Kabir Khan, Tubelight features Salman Khan and Sohail Khan. Will the brotherhood work for the film?
With just two days left for the release of Tubelight, Salman Khan fans are in a different as they have been waiting for the film ever since it was first announced. Tubelight is set during the 1962 war between India and China. Salman features in the movie with brother Sohail Khan. At every event, Salman and Sohail have been asked about their brotherhood and how it was working with each other - the plain answer was that it's as we are with each other back home.
Titled Bhai Ka Bhai, the video shows Salman explaining why he chose Sohail as his onscreen brother, “There was no better choice than Sohail for this film because he is my brother. We understand each other. If there was an emotional scene, it was natural for us to display emotions. We were also very comfortable doing comic scenes.”
On the other hand, Sohail had said, "Salman Bhai mentioned Tubelight to me. They wanted someone who wouldn’t just play the character of his brother but also felt the character. He is my younger brother in the film but he is also someone who adores his elder brother and protects him for certain reasons. There is no inhibition, no awkwardness between us. He doesn’t need to say anything, I can understand things from his body language."
But if you go back in history, the films where Salman and Sohail have acted together haven't really done a great business. Starting from the 2008 film, Hello, which was an adapation of Chetan Bhagat's novel, One Night @ the Call Center - the film didn't impress the audience at all. It was declared a disaster.
Not just Hello, the brother jodi tried their hands on others like Veer, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, Heroes or Main Aur Mrs Khanna. But, the two failed miserably at the box office. Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya did well but didn't have the same spark. Same happened with Veer and Main aur Mrs Khanna. Veer could only earn INR 46 crore and was a below average film. Main Aur Mrs Khanna was a disaster and couldn't really create magic even after having Salman and Kareena Kapoor Khan on-board.
It's not that the Salman-Sohail Jodi didn't work. The films Sohail directed and Salman was the lead actor did well at the box office - for instance, Jai Ho, Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya and Auzaar - all the three were considered hit films and audience left the theatres smiling.
Now, the fact is that Salman and Sohail are acting in Tubelight. If you go by the hype that Bajrangi Bhaijaan had, Tubelight is not on the same lines. Both are directed by Kabir Khan.
Will Tubelight finally change the fact that if the both the brothers are in a film - it can work well?
