Many actors around the globe have claimed that it is rather difficult to make people laugh than it is to make them cry. Holding true to this saying, comedy is considered one of the most difficult genres and very few are able to pull it off with ease. It is much more than mouthing cheap, vulgar dialogues and overacting!

It could just be a one liner, a scene or your expressions- doing comedy has no set rules. You could be just standing still and yet be funnier than an actor trying too hard to mouth a funny dialogue. It is an art which not everyone can master. In Bollywood, it is mostly the actors who take away the cake and are credited for being good comedians, while actresses hardly receive the due for being able to tickle the funny bones of the viewers. There could be a lot of reasons for this but most of it is that our industry is highly patriarchal in approach and women have for years been restricted to being an object.

However, there have been a few actresses who have been able to break the glass ceiling and crack us as hard (in fact, more) with their enduring comic timing and flawless acting. While these actresses have struggled to get their due in the industry, we recognize them, as we laugh along with them.

Here is a list of the actresses who have time and again made us laugh:

1. Sridevi: It wouldn't be wrong to say that Sridevi is the queen of comedy. Remember how impeccably, she impersonated Charlie Chaplin in Mr. India? From Chaalbaaz to Mr. India, the legendary actress often rolled up her sleeves, stuck out her tongue to deliver slapstick comedy oh-so-beautifully.

2. Juhi Chawla: If there is any actress who can match Sridevi in comedy, it is Juhi Chawla. One of the best qualities of Juhi Chawla is her ability to laugh at herself and with her laugh make herself look like a complete jackass. Her comic timing in Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke, Bol Radha Bol and other comedy movies has been outstanding.

3. Hema Malini: Dhannooooo!!! aka Hema Malini has, over the years, given us some exceptional comic characters. Be it Basanti from Sholay or be her dual role in Seeta Aur Geeta, this veteran actor has owned every scene she was in making it difficult for us to look at anyone else but her.

4. Madhuri Dixit:  Apart from being the sultry actress she is, Madhuri is undoubtedly one of the best and grandest comedic actresses of Bollywood. She was seen in a comic role mostly alongside Anil Kapoor in films like Ram Lakhan and Khel. Even in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, she displayed some amazing comic timings that made us all go ROFL.

5. Raveena Tandon: To stand out in front of comedy stalwarts like Govinda is a difficult job in itself but Raveena has been able to make us laugh hysterically in almost all films alongside Govinda in David Dhawan films. Apart from this, do you remember her performance in cult movie Andaz Apna Apna? Wasn't she just too good?

6. Kareena Kapoor Khan: Kareena as the chatterbox Punjabi girl, Geet, in Jab We Met was remarkable. Her cute antics along with exceptional comic timings has earned the movie an iconic status indeed. She also did a phenomenal job in Golmaal 3.

7. Karisma Kapoor: How difficult is it to get noticed when you share screen space with Govinda who is known to kill it in comedy? However, Karisma has been able to do this with so much ease. Be it Hero No 1, Coolie No 1 or Judwaa with Salman, Karisma has the ability to make us go LOL, ROFL and LMAO at the same time.

8. Kangana Ranaut: Regarded as the Queen of Bollywood, Kangana as the amaze goofball Rani in the movie Queen had got us all rolling on the floor laughing. Her comic timing in the movie was impeccable. Apart from this, Kangana with her oh-so-cute antics got us all laugh hysterical in Rangoon as well. She is indeed the queen of comedy in this generation!
