Rajkummar Rao, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan: Actors who rendered us speechless with their prosthetic makeup
As Rajkummar leaves us boggled with his unrecognisable avatar in Raabta. On these lines, we list down actors who underwent prosthetics to get into the skin of their characters.
Did you recognize Rajkummar Rao in Raabta? No, we aren't joking! For those who missed his cameo in the trailer, Rajkummar will be seen playing a man of 324 years and the actor is simply unrecognizable in his new avatar. While Raj is known for getting into the skin of the characters, he is not the first actor to undergo such a drastic makeover for a character.
Earlier too, several acclaimed actors including Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar with the help of prosthetic makeup have donned a more realistic look as per their character's demand. The process to get a prosthetic makeup done is highly excruciating and painful, however, nonetheless, it is all worth it! What is really refreshing is that actors today are ready to go an extra mile to nail their characters and well, we appreciate their passion for the craft.
Here is the list of actors who rendered us speechless with the humongous makeover stint.
1. Amitabh Bachchan in Paa: The Megastar who essayed the role of a 12-year-old boy who suffered from a rare genetic disorder called Progeria in Paa donned prosthetics to get his look correct for the character. The man behind that stellar work was makeup man Stephen Dupuis. Well, reports even suggested that it used to take makeup artists at least 4 hours to put on the makeup and well another two hours to remove it. Big B, in fact, had a lot of problem in breathing and eating due to prosthetic on his face. However, his dedication paid off as he was unrecognizable in that look and his impeccable performance won him several accolades for the movie and rightly so!
2. Rishi Kapoor in Kapoor and Sons: The veteran actor who played the role of a 90-year-old-man in Kapoor and Sons and to look that age he donned prosthetics. Rishi, who won several hearts as Dadu, had to nearly sit five hours to get his makeup done. Such dedication is simply commendable! An American makeup artist Greg Cannom of ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ and ‘Titanic’ fame was roped in for the project and well it was all worth the effort, wasn't it? The actor won several awards for his distinguish performance in the movie.
3. Shah Rukh Khan in Fan: Shah Rukh Khan who played a dual role in Fan had to don prosthetic to get Gaurav's look correct. To get it done right, the actor underwent some four to five hours every day which involved taping up his face, attached fillers to his eyebrows, plumpers inserted in his mouth. The man behind this was Hollywood makeup guru Greg Cannom and boy such determination and passion are simply mind blogging.
4. Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 2: Remember how Hrithik disguised himself several times to execute his robbery plans in the movie? Well, to get those characters right, Hrithik too took the help of prosthetics. Be it a dwarf, old lady or an old man, the actor nearly nailed all the characters to perfection. Well, the man behind this was none other than the prosthetic makeup artist and hair technician, Sjaan Gillings.
5. Kamal Haasan in Chachi 420: Kamal Haasan was perhaps one of the early actors to have experimented with his looks using prosthetic makeup. Remember Kamal Haasan transformation as an old age woman in the movie Chachi 420? Well, that was all done with the use of prosthetics and it is a painstaking process indeed. The man to be credited for his look was makeup artists Barry R Koper, Karthik and Michael Westmore.
6. Akshay Kumar in 2.0: The next to join this bandwagon is none other than Khiladi Kumar who will be seen in an unrecognizable avatar in his upcoming movie 2.0. The renowned makeup artist Sean Foot is the man behind this magical transformation. It took nearly 6 hours for the makeup artists to help Akshay get into the character using prosthetics. Akshay's distinct avatar is jaw-dropping and well, for more we will have to wait for the movie to release.
