From Karan Johar-Kangana Ranaut's nepotism controversy to Kareena Kapoor Khan-Taimur's viral picture; top newsmakers of the 1st quarter of 2017

The first quarter of 2017 saw many controversies making the top news and breaking the internet. We even saw some amazing photographs which made us go aww and also make us say, "What's going on?!"

Let us take a look at the top newsmakers of the first quarter of 2017: 

1. Karan Johar - Kangana Ranaut Nepotism controversy

Kangana Ranaut shocked Karan Johar when she called him snooty and the flagbearer of nepotism on his show Koffee With Karan 5. During an event in London, when KJo was asked about it, he said, "I appreciate that she had a great perspective and everyone lauded her for coming on my show. People said ‘she gave it off to Karan’ and I would say of course, but I was gracious enough to keep everything. I cut none of it and I do edit so much of stuff from the show. I was like let the world see her opinion. I gave her the platform to speak and now this is my platform so here I am speaking what I want to. I want to conclude by saying I am done with Kangana playing the woman card and the victim card. You can’t be a victim at every point of time who has a sad story to say as to how you have been terrorised by the bad world of industry. If that’s the case, leave it."

2. Kareena Kapoor Khan and son Taimur Ali Khan's adorable picture

We got our hands on a picture of Taimur Ali Khan along with his gorgeous mother Kareena Kapoor Khan. In the photo, Kareena is seen planting a kiss on Taimur's forehead and it is absolutely an awwdorable moment. While we cannot get over the cuteness of this picture, it is Taimur's candid smile that is sure to catch everyone's attention.

3. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's father Krishnaraj Rai passes away

It was a sad March for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as her ailing father Krishnaraj Rai passed away on March 18, 2017. Reportedly, Krishnaraj Rai had previously undergone a treatment for cancer in the past and apparently, his cancer had relapsed. The doctors later revealed that he suffered from Lymphoma Cancer, which spread to the brain. 

4. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati controversy

The team of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati took off to Jaipur for a month-long shoot at the Jaigarh fort. However, things took an ugly turn when protesters belonging from Karni Sena disrupted the shoot and caused damage to the equipment on the sets. The Karni Sena, reportedly, is claiming that the film portrays Rani Padmavati in a bad light. The role is being essayed by Deepika Padukone. As per the pictures doing the rounds, protesters went berserk, throwing shooting equipment and staging a violent protest. The issue magnified when even Bhansali himself was beaten up. The shoot has been put on hold for the moment. 

5. Shahid Kapoor reveals the first picture of daughter Misha Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor finally shared the first picture of his adorable daughter Misha Kapoor. In the lovely photograph, his wife Mira is seen giving Misha a peck on her cheeks, while the little munchkin is looking adorably into the camera. The handsome actor captioned the picture on Instagram saying, "Hello world."

6. Deepika Padukone - Vin Diesel

During her stint on The Ellen Show, Deepika Padukone was asked about a romance brewing between her and xXx: The Return of Xander Cage co-star Vin Diesel. To which she said, "Well, there is no smoke without fire! But, it’s all in my head! So yeah, I mean in my head I think, we are together and we have this amazing chemistry, and we live together and we have these amazing babies! But it’s all in my head."

This statement by DP shocked everyone and social media pages were flooded with questions and opinions about her relationship status.

7. Deepika Padukone spotted with Ranveer Singh after a long time

Good news came around when Deepika Padukone and rumoured beau Ranveer Singh were spotted together at the airport. Both were seen spending quality time together and seemed annoyed with the fact that they were clicked.

8.  Deepika Padukone bonds with ex-Ranbir Kapoor's mom Neetu Kapoor

Deepika Padukone was spotted with her ex-Ranbir Kapoor's mother Neetu Kapoor. They got chatty and were all smiles while talking to each other. This picture brought an instant smile on Ranbir-Deepika fans.

9. Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapoor feud

During Rangoon promotions, Shahid revealed that Kangana makes up things in her head and that she has a vivid imagination. When we asked Ranaut about Shahid's statements, she gave a shocking reply saying, "That line he (Shahid) must have borrowed from Hrithik. He would have thought that dude I will borrow these claims from Hrithik."

10.  Mira Rajput Women's Day controversy

Shahid Kapoor's wife Mira Rajput created quite a stir when she gave some shocking statements on the occasion of Women's Day. She said, "I had a tough pregnancy, I went to those 5 months of difficult times to bring my daughter into this world. So now I want to spend every moment that I can with her and I think there is a set of responsibilities around my plate and I feel at my age I have a lot more energy, I have my future ahead of me, so I can finish all of my responsibility and I have nothing in my way. I can raise my daughter, I can be a good wife. Nothing will stop me after that. I love being at home, I love being a mother to my child, I wouldn’t want to spend one hour a day with my child and rush off to work, why did I have her? She is not a puppy; I want to be there for her as a mother."

This did not go well with many working women and one of her college mates penned an open letter saying, "Having watched your interview, I feel extremely enraged today. I’ve spent three years in the same college and batch as you. I can say today with confidence that your idea of feminism is extremely flawed. Seeing you walk around with your posse in college, belittling women who were not skinny enough or did not subscribe to your fashion ‘standards’ makes me wonder what you ever did to have a moral high ground over anyone at any point. Your narrow world view is astounding, to say the least. And not to forget, how your statement about working mothers takes us years back in reaching actual empowerment of which you seem to know nothing."
