Who runs the world? GIRLS!

"I adore you and I want you to be my mommy," Adele quipped at an emotional Beyoncé.

The Grammys took place today and who were the true blood show stealers of the night? It was none other than Beyoncé and Adele. While Adele won 5 Awards including the TOP 3 (Best Album, Record & Song), Beyoncé won the Best Contemporary Album for Lemonade.

They both performed at the Grammys. Adele gave a powerful rendition of her Grammy-winning song, Hello and as a tribute to the late George Michael sang his song Fastlove as a tribute. She restarted her performance stating that she had to do justice to the singer.

Beyoncé, who recently announced her pregnancy in the most badass way through a picturesque photoshoot, performed while heavily pregnant which is not as easy or flawless as Queen Bey made it seem. Her performance lasted 9 minutes and included songs from Lemonade like Love Drought and Sandcastles. She slayed with her performance and left the audience in awe. But, who was her biggest cheerleader? It was none other than her daughter Blue Ivy Carter who was overjoyed to see her strong and powerful mother on stage.

When it came to the acceptance speeches both delivered resounding messages that spoke of women empowerment in more ways than one.

When Beyoncé received her award, she indirectly without mentioning his name (Donald Trump) spoke about how children of all colour deserve a voice.

Some excerpts from her speech:

We all experience pain and loss, and often we become inaudible. My intention for the film and album was to create a body of work that would give a voice to our pain, our struggles, our darkness and our history. To confront issues that make us uncomfortable.

It’s important to me to show images to my children that reflect their beauty, so they can grow up in a world where they look in the mirror, first through their own families — as well as the news, the Super Bowl, the Olympics, the White House and the Grammys — and see themselves, and have no doubt that they’re beautiful, intelligent and capable. This is something I want for every child of every race. And I feel it’s vital that we learn from the past and recognise our tendencies to repeat our mistakes.

Adele went up on stage not once but thrice and in all three speeches made it a point to thank Queen Bey and what an inspiration she is to the entire music industry.

She also spoke about the struggles of motherhood and how she persevered with determination and finally her life has come full circle.

Some excerpts from her speech:

Five years ago, when I was last here, I also was pregnant, and I didn’t know. I found out shortly after, which was the biggest blessing of my life. And in my pregnancy and through becoming a mother I lost a lot of myself. And I’ve struggled, and I still do struggle being a mum. It’s really hard. But tonight winning this kind of feels full circle, and like a bit of me has come back to myself.

But I can’t possibly accept this award. And I’m very humbled and I’m very grateful and gracious. But my artist of my life is Beyoncé. And this album to me, the Lemonade album, is just so monumental. Beyoncé, it’s so monumental. And so well thought out, and so beautiful and soul-baring and we all got to see another side to you that you don’t always let us see. And we appreciate that. And all us artists here adore you. You are our light.

And the way that you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my black friends feel is empowering. And you make them stand up for themselves. And I love you. I always have and I always will. Grammys, I appreciate it. The academy, I love you. My manager, my husband and my son. You’re the only reason I do it. Thank you so much. Thank you very much to everybody.

Adele even broke one of her Grammy's into half to give a piece of it to Beyoncé

Adele's speech for her idol and the tears in Beyoncé's eyes was storytelling at its finest. Such powerful women having nothing but adoration for each other. This should be a lesson for all those who keep pitting women against each other and break that stereotype just like Beyoncé and Adele did.
