Whenever the remake of a movie is released, it is bound to be compared with original one. Ok Jaanu, which is the Hindi remake of Tamil film O Kaadhal Kanmani released today. The original film starred South stars Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen in the leads along with Prakash Raj and Leela Samson in pivotal roles. In Ok Jaanu, we have Aashiqui 2 stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor with Naseeruddin Shah and Leela reviving her original role.

The premise of the movie surrounds around a young couple who are in a live-in, until the time they go away to explore opportunities in their career. Adi (Aditya) is a gamer who wish to go and stay in the US to chase his dreams, whereas Tara (Shraddha) is an architect, who will be going to Paris as she gets her scholarship in architecture.

P.S. If you have seen the OK Kanmani, this film might not excite you as it will be a simply predictable film.

Let's take a look at detailed comparisons between the both:

Story

The story has been scene-to-scene adapted in Ok Jaanu. Director Shaad Ali retained the original essence created by Mani Ratnam in OK Kanmani. There were minute differences in the Aditya-Shraddha starrer as to keep up with the Bollywood film formula. The only major part that wasn't in the Tamil movie, but was added in Ok Jaanu, were the kisses between the leads. As Dulquer is married (in real life) and has a no-kiss clause, OK Kanmani did not have many intimate scenes. But the romance was as intense and sizzling as the millennials would expect from a film based on live-in relationships.

Songs

Original soundtracks from OK Kanmani has been revived in Ok Jaanu with Gulzar's beautiful lyrics. The music director of the film, A. R. Rahman added two additional songs - The Humma Song and Enna Sona which summed up to eight songs in the album. Due to all the songs added in the film, the screentime looked slightly less than OK Kanmani. But, both the films are equally musical and the songs play a major part in the film.

Chemistry

The chemistry between Aditya and Shraddha had a broader and sizzling approach. Whereas Dulquer and Nithya's chemistry was a tad less than in Ok Jaanu. As we stated above, the Hindi movie had kissing scenes while OK Kanmani did not have any liplock between the leads. Making out on the terrace or kissing in the pool and even on their marriage were a total no-no in the Tamil version.

City of Mumbai

OK Kanmani was entirely shot in Mumbai and the city of joy was shown beautifully,  making it a pivotal part of the movie. As the backdrop of the Tamil movie was set in Mumbai, it became quite easier to choose the locations for Ok Jaanu. Both the movie showed us the landmarks and never-seen-before locales of the Maximum City.

Theme

Dulquer-Nithya starrer film had the theme of live-in relationship which was not much much explored in Tamil films. Coming to Bollywood, live-in relationship concept has been earlier shown in films like Salaam Namaste, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Shudh Desi Romance, Cocktail, Befikre and more. So, for Ok Jaanu, the premise was set upon 'Career vs Love' and it was aesthetically portrayed in the film by the leads.
