The first week of 2017 started on a bitter-sweet note. The industry lost one of its pioneers, veteran actor Om Puri, on January 6. He suffered a cardiac arrest. 

On the other hand, celebs who were vacationing abroad for New Year's returned home. Abhishek Bachchan with wife Aishwarya and daughter Aaradhya, Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna with their baby girl Nitara and others made a splash at the Mumbai airport.

The team of Rangoon finally gave us a sneak peek into the story of the war drama starring Kangana Ranaut, Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor by releasing their much-awaited trailer. The movie, directed by National Award winning filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, is a period drama set in the 1940s amidst the turmoil of India's independence struggle. 

9)  Actor Om Puri suffers a cardiac arrest, passes away

Veteran actor Om Puri suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away on January 6. He was 66 years old. The entire industry mourned his loss. From Shashi Kapoor to Amitabh Bachchan and Shabana Azmi, hordes of celebrities were spotted at his funeral. 

8) EXCLUSIVE: Sara Ali Khan to learn bike riding for Karan Malhotra's next opposite Hrithik Roshan!

For quite some time now, speculations have been rife that Sara Ali Khan will be making her Bollywood debut with a Karan Johar film opposite Hrithik Roshan. A source close to the film confirmed the same to us and added, "The film begins in February this year after Hrithik Roshan is done with Kaabil. Karan (Malhotra) has currently gone to Punjab for a recce. A majority of the movie will be shot there. Sara too has started prepping for the role. She will take lessons in bike riding. Since it is her debut film, she is putting in a lot of effort to look convincing."

7) Apne baap se seekho! Did Anil Kapoor reprimand daughter Sonam Kapoor at Stardust Awards?

Sonam Kapoor recently won the Editor's Choice Best Actor (Female) Award at Stardust Awards for her incredible performance in Neerja. Director Ram Madhvani won the Filmmaker of the Year Award alongside Pink’s Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and both received the awards from the Kapoor brothers, Anil and Boney. They also requested the entire cast and crew of both the films to accompany the directors on stage. The whole team of Neerja came up on the stage except Sonam, as she was seen engaged in a conversation with one of the guests present there. When Anil saw this, he called out his daughter by saying, "Apne baap se seekho.." and asks her to join everyone on stage.

6) Awwww! Sara & Ibrahim are very excited on the birth of their half-brother Taimur

Post giving birth to a baby boy Taimur Ali Khan, new parents Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan hosted a cozy dinner for close friends and family on the Christmas Eve. We saw Saif's kids Sara and Ibrahim being part of the celebrations. Reportedly, Saifeena's close friends revealed that Ibrahim and Sara were “very excited” to welcome their little half-brother into the world, and have been nothing but supportive!

The details of the horrific Bengaluru Molestation Case was all across the media. And then the insensitive comments from senior political leaders like Abu Azmi added fuel to the fire. But. his sexist and derogatory remark didn't go down well with actress Esha Gupta, who posted a strongly-worded message regarding the same on her Twitter handle.  The matter escalated when Abu's son, Farhan Azmi slut-shamed Esha in a series of tweets!

Having celebrated the New Year in Dubai, lovely couple Aishwarya and Abhishek along with daughter Aaradhya were clicked at the airport, on their return. 

Even Akshay Kumar breezed through the airport with his doting wife Twinkle Khanna and their little daughter Nitara. 

Also spotted were Ajay Devgn, Kajol and their children Nysa and Yug.

The Kill Marry Hookup sequence on Koffee With Karan rapid fire round always puts the celebs in a tongue-tied situation. Shahid Kapoor and wife Mira Rajput faced the similar situation too. The actor was asked to choose Kill Marry and Hookup among Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt and Sonakshi Sinha. To which, the handsome actor said, "Hookup with Alia, because it's safe; marry Sonakshi because she is very marriageable and has to kill Priyanka by default, unfortunately."
