Best of 2016: From Bipasha-Karan, Asin-Rahul to Preity-Gene; Celebrities who got hitched this year!

While the year 2016 can be highly considered the year of breakups with high profile couples heading to splitsville, there were many who took a step forward towards the new journey of their lives and tied the knot. 

On one hand, Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover decided to marry in a grand ceremony, Preity Zinta took vows with Gene Goodenough in a hush-hush wedding ceremony in LA. 

Let's take a look at the fairy tale weddings of 2016 which were all things mushy and romantic! 

Bipasha Basu & Karan Singh Grover

#MonkeyLove - As interesting is the hashtag for Bipasha-Karan's wedding, the couple's wedding festivities were that much quirky, fun and full of colour. Bips-KSG tied the knot in the media glare rather than hiding their wedding details. They themselves went on to share the inside pictures from the functions. The two hopelessly romantics got hitched on April 30 this year. While their mehendi and sangeet were a close-knit affair, attended by close family members and friends, the wedding reception was a star-studded affair, literally! From Bachchans to Kapoors and Khans, Bips-KSG wedding was an event of a lifetime, perfect to T!

Asin Thottumkal & Rahul Sharma

Asin and Rahul tied the knot in both Hindu and Christian rituals in a low-key affair in Delhi on January 20. This was followed by a big reception for their industry friends in Mumbai on January 23. Asin-Rahul's love story was nothing less than a filmy shaadi and actor Akshay Kumar acted as the cupid in their relationship. He introduced Asin to his BFF Rahul. Reportedly, Rahul proposed Asin by organizing a treasure hunt for her and towards the end asked her the million dollar question with a 20-carat solitaire ring with the letters AR engraved on it. 

Preity Zinta & Gene Goodenough

This one wedding came as a sweet surprise to all the Preity Zinta's fans. Her wedding to LA-based Gene Goodenough was a closely guarded affair with whom she got hitched on February 28.  After much ado, Preity finally revealed her marital status on the social media. She came to India in May and hosted a lavish post-wedding bash for her industry friends on May 13. From Salman Khan making an entry with his rumoured love Iulia Vantur to Shahid Kapoor posing with his then pregnant wife Mira, PZ's reception was all things filmy and glamourous! 

Urmila Matondkar & Mohsin Akhtar Mir

Another diva who decided to give up her singleton status was Urmila. She took the wedding vows with Mir on March 3 in a low-key ceremony where the two got married on the actress' apartment's terrace. Only designer Manish Malhotra was present at the do. Mir, who hails from a Kashmir-based business family, is 10 years younger to Urmila. The two met at Malhotra’s niece Rridhi’s wedding in December 2014 and fell for each other. Contrary to the reports, Urmila-Mir didn't have any star-studded bash post the wedding. 

Amrita Rao & RJ Anmol

How secretly guarded this wedding gets proved from the fact that till date there is no wedding picture of Amrita & Anmol out in the social media space! The wedding announcement was equally underplayed. On May 15, Anmol, took to his Facebook page and posted, "An interview that started 7 years back, continues… Only to get stronger today! JUST MARRIED!!! Myself & Amrita need your Good Wishes.” Alongside, he shared a photo of himself Amrita. And that's all the info we have on this one! 

Lisa Haydon & Dino Lalvani

Looks like, 2016 was also the year of surprise weddings! Supermodel-turned-actress Lisa tied the knot with her boyfriend Dino Lalvani on October 31 after dating for a year. Lisa had announced her marriage with a photograph where the couple is seen sharing a kiss and the caption reads: “Gonna marry him.” But, the wedding was a lovely yet an unexpected news. The two had a dreamy, romantic beach wedding where Lisa stunned in an all-white long gown!

Kabir Bedi & Parveen Dusanj

Age is no barrier for love and Kabir's marriage to Parveen stands testimonial to the fact. On his 70th birthday, Bedi tied the knot for the 4th time to Parveen (42). He got married in Alibaug on January 15 in the presence of his close family and friends. Kabir was previously married to late Protima Gauri Bedi, then British-born Susan Humphreys and Nikki Bedi was his third wife.However, Protima’s daughter Pooja Bedi passed snide remarks on Twitter after her father announced his wedding, and compared Parveen to an 'evil stepmother.' Though she later retracted the tweet, but her unhappiness was well-known to all.
