Ranbir-Katrina, Brangelina, Arbaaz-Malaika, Farhan-Adhuna: Breakups that shocked us in 2016!

2016 witnessed some of the biggest and most shocking breakups in Bollywood and Hollywood. When the news broke out about the separation of some of our favourite couples, the fans could not digest the fact and it became the talk of the town for the whole year.

Here are the top breakups from both the reigning industries this year.

Ranbir Kapoor - Katrina Kaif

PINKVILLA was the first to report about this infamous breakup at the start of the year. The couple called it quits after six years of their relationship. RanKat, as they were fondly called, lived together for a year in a plush apartment in the city. There were rumours that Ranbir's mom Neetu Kapoor was not happy about their relationship which went on to become one of the reasons for their breakup. Now, the estranged couple will be reunited onscreen in Anurag Basu's Jagga Jasoos.

Arbaaz Khan - Malaika Arora

Arbaaz and Malaika decided to end their 19 years of marriage this year. There were several rumours floating about their separation until they gave out a joint statement regarding the same. The estranged couple filed for divorce last month which will be finalized next year. There were reports of Arbaaz Khan's closeness to an unknown woman and also rumours started floating about Malaika and Arjun Kapoor. The couple have been cordial to each other and even celebrated festivals together with their whole family.

Farhan Akhtar - Adhuna Bhabani

Farhan and his ex-wife Adhuna ended their 16 years of marriage in 2016 by releasing a joint statement. They said, "This is to announce that we, Adhuna and Farhan, have mutually and amicably decided to separate. Our children remain our priority and it is immensely important to us, as responsible parents, that they be protected from unwarranted speculation and public glare. We sincerely request that we are given the privacy that is required at this time to move forward in a dignified manner." There were link-up rumours about Farhan and Shraddha Kapoor, where both have maintained a silence about it.

Kamal Haasan - Gautami

These veteran actors have been in a live-in relationship for about 13 years before calling it quits. Gautami shared a blog about it on her Twitter, where she gave an open statement saying it's the end of her relationship with Kamal Haasan. She stated, "It is heartbreaking for me to have to say today that I and Mr Haasan are no longer together. After almost 13 years together, it has been one of the most devastating decisions that I have ever had to make in my life." There were rumours of Kamal's daughter Shruti Haasan behind the separation, but she rubbished all the reports.

Sushant Singh Rajput - Ankita Lokhande

One of the adorable couples of Bollywood and the Television industry ended their six-year-long relationship this year. SSR and Ankita were about to get hitched in the month of December after getting engaged.  It was reported that Ankita's insecure and possessive nature cited an ugly turn in their relationship. But SSR denied all the news with just one tweet saying, "Neither she was an alcoholic nor I am a womaniser . People do Grow apart & its unfortunate . Period!!" Now, there are reports that SSR is getting close to his Raabta co-star Kriti Sanon, which both have never admitted in public.

Brad Pitt - Angelina Jolie

This was one of the most shocking breakups of all time. The ultimate power couple fondly called as Brangelina called it quits after two years of their marriage and 12 years of togetherness. It broke hearts of many of their fans and Brad talked about it to an international weekly magazine saying, "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids." The estranged couple has six children together.

Himesh Reshammiya - Komal

The ace music composer-singer-actor filed for divorce from his wife Komal and ended their 22 years of marriage. He confirmed the news about it to a tabloid saying, "Sometimes in life, mutual respect becomes the most important, and giving due respect to our relationship, Komal and I have amicably decided to part ways... There is no problem whatsoever with this decision among us and our family as every member respects it. Yet, Komal is and will always remain a part of our family and I will always be a part of her family." Komal added, "Himesh and I completely respect each other and are jointly going ahead with this decision to part ways, but mutual respect will always be there between us as I am a part of his family and will always be, and the same stands for him towards my family." There were rumours that Himesh's alleged relationship with TV actress Sonia Kapoor is one of the prime reasons for his divorce with Komal.

Johnny Depp - Amber Heard

This was another breakup report that shocked they Hollywood industry. Amber claimed that she was abused physically and verbally by Depp in their 15-month marriage. The couple got divorced in the month of May.
