Dear Twitterati who hide behind their screens,

Circa 1947, India gained Independence and the deadly weapon of Freedom of Speech was born.

Cut, to 2010 - India became equipped with a deadlier weapon - Social Media. People took to various mediums like Twitter to express their opinions on anything and everything. The main target of this banter falls on public figures and specifically in India - Celebrities are the main targets.

Ever wonder why celebrities think twice before uttering their supposed mindset? It's because anything they say becomes news. Anything they say, creates a benchmark. If the public does not agree with you, you're screwed.

Case in point, the arrival of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan's Royal Prince - Taimur Ali Khan. For the better part of the year, everyone was excited for Saif-Bebo's baby and finally the day came. And Karan Johar revealed the baby's name - Taimur Ali Khan. - The End.

Taimur was not even a few hours old and the tiny toddler was verbally bashed left and right by Twitter users. Their argument was that Taimur was named after the 14th century Mongol invader, Timur.

The question is - what's in a name? Well apparently, a LOT!

Twitter users went absolutely crazy and made Taimur Ali Khan famous for all the wrong reasons. If Saif and Kareena name their baby Taimur, will people not get sleep at night? Just because they are famous figures, does that mean we have the right in naming their baby? Did you expect the couple to have a poll on what they should or should not name their baby? Don't they have a right to choose?

Imagine over a thousand people coming to your house and telling your baby his name sucks because there was someone from some generation who committed a crime! What would your response be?

Speaking of free speech, remember when Aamir Khan (who is now being praised for his portrayal of playing an Indian hero Mahavir Phogat) had said this:

"(Wife) Kiran and I have lived all our lives in India. For the first time, she said, should we move out of India? That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make to me. She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers everyday. That does indicate that there is a sense of growing disquiet."

Twitter world went on an absolute outrage and Aamir was the target of widespread hatred. It came up to a point where Aamir was forced to apologize for his words. He was the Brand Ambassador of Incredible India and then had to relinquish his position as he was questioned for his own nationalism.

Anushka Sharma is dating cricketer Virat Kohli. There was a certain time when Virat was not scoring the runs he is accustomed to. So who was to blame for that? Of course, it was Anushka, according to Social Media. Fans went berserk and started sending her hate tweets. It came to such a point where Virat, who is usually secretive about his personal life, to come out and hit back at the haters and make them understand that Anushka is not to be blamed for his shortcomings.

How could one forget, when the national news was how Alia Bhatt stated that the President of India was Prithviraj Chauhan. Still to this day, she gets trolled for her IQ levels and at the time when the Koffee With Karan episode aired, the tag stuck with her ever since. Memes galore continues even now. When do you know the difference between funny and just plain insulting?

How far is too far? Just because we have the Freedom of Speech, does that give us the right to ridicule someone for absolutely no reason at all?

Taimur Ali Khan, we have absolutely no problem with your name. We're just glad it's not Saifeena!
