Diwali Special: From Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham to Prem Ratan Dhan Payo; here are the iconic scenes of the festival!
Any festival celebrated in India goes on a different level when it comes to Bollywood movies. The major festive season is celebrated with pomp and perseverance in the movies and gives us a visual treat filled with thrills, songs, dances, romanticism and much more. Similarly, the festival of lights, Diwali also has a huge impact in some of the Bollywood movies.
On the occasion of the auspicious festival, let's take a look at some of the iconic sequences:
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
The movie starts with a flashback, where Hrithik Roshan's grandmothers tell him the story of the last happy Diwali the Raichand family celebrated. In the title song, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Jaya Bachchan is seen waiting for her son played by Shah Rukh Khan to come back home after a very long time. Towards the end of the song, SRK makes a grand entry and Jaya is seen overwhelmed. The special part of the song is "Maa ka Pyaar" which is shown in a true sense. as Jaya gets an intuition that her son is nearby.
Aisha
Aisha is touted as one of the most fashionable movies ever made in Bollywood. In the Diwali sequence, Sonam Kapoor, who plays the lead in the film is seen wearing a beautiful saree teamed up with pretty jewellery. Lisa Haydon shows off her singing talent and makes Sonam a bit jealous in this funny yet interesting scene.
Mohabbatein
In this classic romantic film, SRK breaks all the rules which gripped the Gurukul institution headed by Amitabh Bachchan. King Khan teaches the students to fly free and win their love no matter what. During the song Pairon Mein Bandhan Hai which shows the occasion of Diwali, the three pivotal couples - Uday Chopra-Shamita Shetty, Jugal Hansraj-Kim Sharma and Jimmy Shergill-Preeti Jhangiani celebrate their love openly.
Vaastav
Sanjay Dutt gave one of the best performances in this film. Known for its dialogues, the Diwali sequence is an impactful scene from the film. The iconic dialogue, "50 tola" is mouthed by Sanjay during this sequence. When Raghu (Sanjay) becomes a gangster, he finally comes back home drunk and shows off his power to his family. Not a happy sequence, but an unforgettable one.
Taare Zameen Par
When Ishaan Awasthi played by Darsheel Safary is being sent to a boarding school by his parents, it leaves him all depressed. Just a few days before he leaves, he is seen sitting aloof during Diwali, when one of his neighbour's kids tease him. It angers him badly and he burst a cracker in his hand itself by crying profusely. Emotional!
Chachi 420
In the Hindi remake of Robin Williams' comedy film, Mrs. Doubtfire, Kamal Haasan did a commendable job as Chachi. Amrish Puri, who played Kamal's father-in-law calls Chachi for an interview for the nanny's post. Meanwhile, his daughter Bharati plays crackers with the servants but is injured due to the fireworks. Kamal like a doting father doesn't care about his disguised avatar and saves his daughter, which eventually impresses Amrish and Tabu and they give Chachi the job of a nanny to Bharati.
Zanjeer
The movie is based on Amitabh Bachchan seeking revenge from the villain who killed his parents in front of him when he was a kid, during Diwali. The scene is haunting for the boy, who just sees the bracelet of the villain which gives him nightmares even after he grows up.
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
Known as one of the longest climax scenes in Bollywood, the Diwali sequence is filled with action, drama, confrontation and many more. In this film, Salman plays a double role and finally comes face-to-face with each other and get out of the mess and plotting created by Armaan Kohli. Sonam Kapoor, who was seen as a princess in the film, gets to know the harsh truth that she was with the wrong Prince this whole time.
