Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has been pretty kind when it comes to giving us one of the catchiest numbers. From foot-tapping party songs to heart-wrenching emotional tracks, KJo seems to have mastered the art of striking the right chord and picking on the dearest feelings to our hearts.

However, what has stood out from these has been the Sufi numbers the production house has introduced from time and again.

With the Bulleya audio out now, the filmmaker has reworked the magic and we are from head to toe immersed in the Sufi spirits yet again.

Crooned by Amit Mishra and Shilpa Rao and penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya the song echoes the pain of an unrequited lover and his deepest longing to be with his love. The song radiates the same vibes as did the teaser that underlines the agony of one-sided love.

But as we have mentioned this is not the first time Karan has created the Sufi magic, here is a throwback to some of the most soulful songs introduced by Dharma Productions.

1.Mitwa

Sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali, Shankar Mahadevan and Caralisa Monterio, the track from Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006) with its lyrics reflects on the contemplation that goes on inside an individual’s mind. The track focuses on the connect of a person with his inner soul.

2.Sajda

Sajda is crooned by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Shankar Mahadevan and Richa Sharma from My Name is Khan (2010) and the lyrics of the song speaks about the lover’s jubilation on finally finding peace with his partner. The song celebrates the true colours of Sufism as it accords a god-like stature to the lover.

3.Iktara

From the movie Wake Up Sid (2009), the track has been crooned by Kavita Seth and Amitabh Bhattacharya and is exclusively about the aspirations and dreams of an individual. Echoing the underlining theme of a deeper longing to be able to know the self and finally be able to merge in the transcendental is what makes this melodic and empowering number stand out.

4.Kabira

Sung by Tochi Raina and Rekha Bharadwaj, from the movie Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (2013), the track exudes the inner conflict between one’s multiple desires. Bringing along the sense of self -awakening, the theme and music belong to one of the most potent genres of Sufi music.

Now that we are totalling reminiscing over the Sufi hangover, which song from these KJo’s movies hit the right note with you?
