Why Rajinikanth’s Kabali Has the Makings of an Epic Blockbuster

The day that countless fans of Southern cinema have been eagerly waiting for is almost upon us. Rajinikanth’s eagerly-awaited and much-hyped Kabali is all set to hit screens. Directed by Pa Ranjith, it marks the 65-year-old superstar’s comeback  to the big screen after a short hiatus. In it, he plays the role of an ageing don. Today, we tell you why Kabali mania has truly gripped the nation and is now at fever pitch.

Rajinikanth’s New Look: One of the main reasons because of which Kabali mania has gripped movie buffs is that the film features Rajinikanth in a brand new stylish avatar. The superstar’s suave new getup is quite remarkable. Moreover, he has carried it off with ease and proved why his style statement is just flawless. Interestingly, in some sequences he will also be seen sporting a look similar to the one donned by him in the early stages of his career. This is bound to leave audiences nostalgic.

The Radhika Apte-Rajinikanth Pairing:  Kabali marks the first time that that Radhika Apte is working with the legendary ‘Thalaiva’. And well the two make an unconventional yet lovable pair indeed. Furthermore, based on the teaser, it becomes clear that she will be playing a mature character in this one. As such it can safely be said that Kabali could help her step out of her comfort zone and explore her abilities to the fullest.

The Pa Ranjith Effect: It was in 2014 that Pa Ranjith gave strong proof of his abilities as a filmmaker when  Madras received rave reviews and opened to a good response at the box office. Moreover, the film was praised for its sensitive depiction of social realities. Now, he is back with Kabali. Based on the teaser, Kabali comes across as an out and out commercial drama. However, at the same time, it also touches upon sensitive issues like the need for pay equality and equal rights. As such, it is quite a thought-provoking yet entertaining drama.

Santosh Narayanan’s Music: Usually it is AR Rahman who composes music for Rajinikanth’s big screen outings. However, Kabali is an exception in  this regard. The mob-drama’s tunes have been composed by the fast-rising Santosh Narayanan. And well they are quite effective. The Nerrupu Da track has already created waves amongst fans courtesy its gripping vocals. Moreover, its lyrics too complement Rajini’s onscreen avatar quite well. As such, one can expect the songs to be an integral part of the narrative

A Wide Release: Besides Tamil, Kabali will also be released in Hindi and Telugu as well. The universal appeal of Rajini’s style statement as well as his popularity in the Telugu and Hindi speaking belts could go a long way in improving the commercial viability of the dubbed versions. Moreover, in an unprecedented move, Kabali will also be released in Malay. This means that there is a likelihood of it doing well in the international market as well. As such, Kabali truly has all the makings of a global phenomena
