How did the Last 10 Eid Releases fare at the Box Office?
The festival of Eid is considered very auspicious for Bollywood. Some of the recent Eid releases have shattered Box Office records worldwide whereas some have not been so lucky.
Here is how the last 10 Eid releases have fared at the box office:
Don (2006)
A remake of the 1978 movie Don starring Amitabh Bachchan, fans were skeptical of Shah Rukh taking on the iconic role. However, he proved the doubters wrong and the movie was a commercial success.

Box Office Collection: Rs. 105 crores
Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007)
This comedy-horror movie was a class apart. And although Akshay Kumar and the rest of the cast shine, it’s the fabulous Vidya Balan who steals the show as Manjulika.

Box Office Collection: Rs. 84 crores
Kidnap (2008)
This Imran Khan and Sanjay Dutt action flick failed to deliver at the box office but managed to do better than Goldie Behl’s Drona starring Abhishek Bachchan.

Box Office Collection: Rs. 34.9 crores
Wanted (2009)
It was this movie that started the trend of Salman’s blockbusters releasing on Eid. His character in the movie was loved and appreciated by all. It was the second highest grossing film of 2009.

Box Office Collection: Rs. 136 crores
Dabangg (2010)
The introduction of Inspector Chulbul Pandey, the debut of Sonakshi Sinha and Munni. These are the ingredients chosen to create an entertaining blockbuster movie. It also won a National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Box Office Collection: Rs. 215 crores
Bodyguard (2011)
Salman Bhai hits a hat-trick on the list too, with another blockbuster where he plays Kareena Kapoor’s bodyguard. The movie was the highest-grossing for a single day up until then.

Box Office Collection: Rs. 230 crores
Ek Tha Tiger (2012)
The chemistry of Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif was undeniable in this action packed movie. It was one of the most successful Yash Raj movies until Dhoom 3 happened.

Box Office Collection: Rs. 320 crores
Chennai Express (2013)
Shah Rukh is back again and it was his turn to take back Eid in this Rohit Shetty film that had us laughing for hours. The film also stars Deepika Padukone and was very successful at the box office.

Box Office Collection: Rs. 422 crores
Kick (2014)
This was one of Salman Khan’s biggest blockbusters. Salman Khan even sang a song for the movie. With Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Randeep Hooda and the beautiful Jacqueline Fernandez we all got a kick out of this movie.

Box Office Collection: Rs. 377 crores
Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015)
A simple story that has an impact on everyone, in a good way. With a stellar cast of Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, its extravagant success was a no-brainer. It went on to win the National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Box Office Collection: Rs. 626 crores
As it turns out, the odds are that if your name is Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan then the festival of Eid is festive indeed!
