Six months of 2016 are over, and by the end of the half-year, we decided to narrow down the best performances by our favourite B-Town actresses. The last few months showed us the diverse range of characters essayed by these power packed performers, who have been ruling the roost, with their terrific acts. Here are a few actresses which make the cut to the half-yearly's best performances-

Alia Bhatt for Udta Punjab

Evolving as a niche actor, we have Alia Bhatt, whose incredible journey from Student of the Year to Udta Punjab is nothing less than phenomenal. The girl stumped each and every one out there in her role of a Bihari migrant (in the film) with her spot one diction, her no-make-up look and her soul-stirring yet gritty act. Kudos!

Kareena Kapoor Khan for Ki & Ka

Another tailor-made role for Bebo, which in a way, no one could have pulled off with such an ease and strength. A strong, independent career woman who is the 'man' in her marriage, the complexities which come with the role reversal tags and how it takes a toll on her married life, the ups and downs - Kareena aced it like a pro.

Swara Bhaskar for Nil Battey Sannata

In another surprisingly beautiful role, Swara won our hearts, yet again. She embraced the role of the indefatigable feisty mother who does not give up hope on her stubborn daughter, in order to give her girl a better future. This has been one of her most nuanced performances, which was well appreciated by the critics.

Shabana Azmi for Neerja

Shabana has many glorious performances to her credit, but her role as Neerja's mother, Rama, repeating a certain Rajesh Khanna line, in times of happiness and grief, got the audience spellbound. Fine tuned  with subtle Punjabi accent and tone, Azmi broke the stereotype 'Maa' roles in Hindi films, who took the viewer through their middle class household of simple hopes, joys and laughs.

Sonam Kapoor for Neerja

Sonam undoubtedly delivered one of the best acts of her career, with the portrayal of the slain air hostess, Neerja Bhanot. The actress was hailed by the critics, as well as her fans for her soulful performance.

Ratna Pathak Shah for Kapoor & Sons

From a mother who plays favourites between her two sons to the wife who constantly taunts her husband about his lack of ambition/success, and drives him into the arms of another woman; Ratna’s role was complex yet convincingly real in this multi-starrer film.

Priyanka Chopra for Jai Gangaajal

Despite the film failed to create magic at the ticket window, Priyanka’s performance was the only saving grace & lauded by all. In the role of a tough cop, Abha Mathur, Piggy Chops act was a sincere effort to salvage the film.
