Bollywood is known for trying out all sorts of genres when it comes to making a movie. Of the lot, we've seen the most inspiring ones to be that of Sports genre.

Let's have a look at some of the best one's Bollywood has given us till date:

Iqbal

Directed by Nagesh Kukonoor, Iqbal revolves around the story of a young boy, obsessed with cricket, aiming to overcome his difficulties and be a part of the Indian National cricket team.

Chak De

Directed by Shimit Amin, the film talks about a failed, former captain of the Indian Hockey team, played by Shah Rukh Khan. Chak De was critically acclaimed and went on to win numerous awards including the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Lagaan

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the film is set in the Victorian period of British Raj in India. The plot revolves around the lives of the poor peasants who are exploited to pay high taxes by their rulers. Lagaan went on to become the third Indian film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film after Mother India (1957) and Salaam Bombay! (1988).

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is based on the life of "The Flying Sikh" Milkha Singh, an Indian athlete who was a national champion runner and an Olympian. Portrayed by Farhan Akhtar, it is fair to say he did full justice to the athlete's role!

Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar

Directed by Mansoor Khan, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar still remains one of the cult films that is watched and loved by one and all even today. The plot revolved around the prestigious college event; a marathon cycle race and two boys fighting for one girl. This movie went on to inspire remakes in Bengali, Telugu and Tamil.

Kai Po Che

Adapted from bestselling author Chetan Bhagat's novel '3 Mistakes if my Life', Kai Po Che was all about friendship, cricket and the aftermath of 2001 Gujarat Earthquake and Godhra Train Burning incident. The film marked Sushant Singh Rajput’s big break in Bollywood!

Paan Singh Tomar

Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, Paan Singh Tomar was based on the athlete Paan Singh Tomar who served the Indian Army and won a gold medal at Indian National Games, but was forced to become a notorious dacoit. Portrayed by Irrfan Khan, the well did extremely well at BO and Irrfan won the Best Actor award, too!

Mary Kom

Directed by Omung Kumar, Mary Kom is about 5-time Women's World Champion and Olympic Medal winning boxer, MC Mary Kom, played by ace actress Priyanka Chopra. The film talks about Mary Kom's journey and struggle to achieve a champion status!
