Love is such a complicated feeling. In good senses, it can bestow you with the power to fight against the world. However, once it turns sour, there’s nothing that can spare you from the wrath of the gods! And, things can be worse if you are a celebrity. Constant media glare, pressure from the industry and image maintenance can cost you dozens of things while being in an infertile relationship.

Celebrity love affairs are full of scandalous anecdotes and ugly turns. Often when we look at a celebrity couple, we are in awe of the rosy picture presented by them, but the reality beneath the frame can take you by shock. The matters of hearts are best dealt inside the closed doors. But, if someone chooses to wash the dirty linens in public, then we aren’t sure what can save them.

There have been times when Indian celebrities have come out in open about their messy affair, its aftermath and dragged their partners into legal corridors. And the after effects is, well, quite unclean! Let’s take a look at the ultimate battle of the couples, who once had been head over heels in love with each other.

Krish v/s Queen 

Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut had never admitted that they have been dating each other  on open grounds.  But, what happened recently has made us rethink about all the claims made by celebrities completely! The Krish hero has sent a legal notice to Kangana stating that the actress has tried to defame him on the social media platforms. The fierce actress, who is not the one to mince words, threw it back on Hrithik by filing a counter-case against him. She, in return, charged him with threatening and spying on her. The battle had kicked off when Kangana — on being questioned about her exit from Aashiqui 3 due to Hrithik — had given a ferociously blunt statement (without naming Hrithik, though) that “exes do silly things for your attention”. The recently-divorced actor couldn’t take it well and tweeted, “Ther r more chances of me having had an affair with d Pope and any of d (I'm sure wonderful) women d media hs ben naming. Thanks but no thanks, (sic).”

And this kicked off the war of words between the stars and we can witness the explosions, can’t we?

It’s Preity Ness-y

When Preity Zinta started dating business tycoon Ness Wadia, there love story was nothing less than a fairytale. They looked so much in love that it is hard to believe that things can take such a nasty turn! From walking hands in hands to Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai’s wedding to throwing surprise birthday parties for each other, the couple was certainly one the best that B-Town witnessed. Taking their relationship to another level, the pair bought an IPL team - Kings XI Punjab - in 2008. Soon after, the indifferences started creeping in and the small tiffs moved to loud arguments. Another reason that added fuel to this fire was Ness’ mother Maureen, who never approved of Preity, as the right girl for her son. In 2009, the grapevine announced shocking news of Ness slapping Preity in a party. In 2013, Preity came clear about their separation. On June 13, 2014, Preity lodged a complaint against Ness, after the businessman, reportedly, abused her verbally and threatened her with dire consequences when she refused to leave the front row of a stand at the Wankhede Stadium.

And since then, it has been happily ‘never’ after in their case!

Aish a (Sal)man sows, so shall he reaps

The love story of world’s beauty queen and heartthrob of millions created ripples in the still water. They were constantly chased by the media for being the hottest celebrity couple, back in 1999. While Aishwarya was making her way to the climb up the ladder of success, Salman was already an established name. But, the pair had to part ways in 2002, when Aishwarya found out about Salman’s philandering ways. But it wasn’t as mutual as it may sound now. Salman used to land on the sets of her movies and accused her of having affairs with her co-stars. Not just this, the actor physically assaulted her in private and public. After being fed up by the constant humiliations and to salvage her career by the last straw, Aishwarya lodged a police complaint against Salman. She had to seek protection from police, as she used to step out with a bunch of government and private security personnel.

No 'Karisma' under the Sun(jay)

Karisma Kapoor entered into wedlock with Delhi-based businessman Sunjay Kapur in 2003. This was Sunjay’s second marriage, while Karisma was also on a rebound after Abhishek Bachchan called off the wedding at the eleventh hour with Karisma. The rumour mills began working even before the actress could settle in the capital. But, Karisma-Sunjay’s marriage is said to have  hit rock bottom after the birth of their first child Samaira. Either to avoid domestic tiffs or to get back to acting, Karisma started shuffling between Delhi and Mumbai. The couple filed for a divorce by mutual consent and has been going through a legal battle for the past couple of years. Recently, the battle took nasty turns as Sunjay alleged her of being a bad mother and said that “Karisma married him for money”.

The vicious remark didn’t go down well with the Kapoors who in the return filed a case of dowry and mental harassment on the Kapurs.

Shaleen-Daljeet danced to the wrong tunes 

Daljeet Kaur and Shaleen Bhanot were once one  of the most-loved celebrity couples from the telly world. The couple also won the dance reality show Nach Baliye. After being together for five years, the parents to a baby boy decided to  part ways. But, this all didn’t happen amicably. Daljeet had allegedly accused Shaleen of abusive behavior and had filed a complaint against him for physically abusing him. The couple couldn’t give into the pressure and made curt remarks about each other in media, making the divorce proceeding complicated for themselves.

Once bitten, twice shy (not really!!) 

On the evening of International Women’s Day this year, the media houses were abuzz with the news of Deepshikha Nagpal slamming a complaint against her husband Kaisav Arora for physically abusing her. This was the second time the actress came out in open about her abusive relationship. Earlier, when the similar things happened with her, the actress decided to give her marriage another chance. But this time, she couldn’t hold it anymore and took to the law. She pressed charges off on Kaisav for trespassing on her house, theft, and physical assault. Reportedly, she had also filed a police complaint last year when Kaishav allegedly threatened to kill her.

Highs and lows of Rahul and Dimpy’s life

Rahul Mahajan has been at the centre of many controversies, right from involvement in the drug case to his alleged abusive relationship with the first wife. However, life gave him another chance and he became quite a favourite amongst the audience when he participated in Bigg Boss. After the successful stint in the reality show, he tried his luck with another show Rahul Dulhania Le Jayega, where he met Dimpy. But, within four months of marriage, Dimpy walked out of the marriage. During an interview, she went on record to say this, “Rahul beat me up early in the morning, after waking me up to know the contents of a message that had beeped on my phone. When I asked him to go back to sleep, he flew into a rage and began hitting me. He punched, kicked and dragged me by the hair.”

She gave him another chance after he pleaded guilty, but things didn’t seem to change and they filed for a divorce. The situation was so ugly that the couple appealed the court to skip the mandatory six-month counseling period! Sigh!!

Shweta-Raja’s bitter lovestory

Shweta Tiwari became a household name with her television show Kasautii Zindagii Kay. Shweta had known Raja Chaudhary since her struggling days and they were said to be a much-in-love couple. However, Shweta became a television star overnight with the popularity of her show and Raja could hardly find decent work in the industry. The difference in status, Shweta’s busy schedule and Raja’s inclination towards alcoholism led to the fall of their relationship, which even the birth of their daughter couldn’t save. Frustrated with Raja’s altered behavior, Shweta decided to part  ways and this didn’t go well with him and he allegedly abused her verbally and physically. Not just this, Raja  created quite a havoc in media by passing uncalled-for remarks about Shweta. The couple now does not see eye to an eye!
