These things about Sanjay Dutt will make you believe that he is controversies’ favourite child
Looking at Sanjay Dutt’s life makes us believe that he is controversies’ favourite child. From extreme highs to ghastly lows, the actor’s life amalgamates everything. We wouldn’t be surprised if a filmmaker decides to make a movie on his life, as it has love, drama, crime, suspense, romance and everything that a blockbuster needs. But, imagine walking a mile in his shoes, from the jail corridors to police station, cancer hospitals to drug rehabilitation centre and everywhere else. Looks tough, ain’t it?
Controversies have always been at the centre stage of the 56-year-old actor’s life. However, he has always emerged stronger and braver. From drugs to 1993 Mumbai blasts, the Sunil Dutt and Nargis’ son has been in the news for several wrong reasons. This Thursday, the actor will walk as a free man once again, as his jail term under Mumbai TADA court gets over.
Braving the odds never seemed to be a tough thing for Bollywood’s Munna Bhai. He had admitted his share of mistakes and never shied away from bearing the brunt. Even with that, the 56-year-old faced criticism, but the sturdy star never kept his guard down.
Sanjay has given us some terrific films like Munna Bhai series, Vaastav, Naam, Sadak, Khalnayak and so many more.
Soon, Sanju Baba will start his new innings in life and B-Town. We take a look at things that have altered the course of his life in all these years:
1993 Mumbai Blasts Case

This is, perhaps, the biggest controversy of Sanjay’s life, which landed him in a legal soup. The actor was found in possessions of illegal weapons, which were used in the deadly blasts in 1993. The Mumbai TADA Court had sentenced him to jail for five years’ rigorous imprisonment in 2007. He was also accused of destroying an AK-56 rifle before March 12, 1993 blasts. In 1994, he was arrested at Mumbai airport, after which he spent 18 months in jail before being released on bail in October 1996.
Parole Baba

After his jail term, if something made news about him, then it was parole. He has apparently spent more than five months on parole during his imprisonment course. After his conviction in 2013, he surrendered to the court and was sent to Yerawada Jail in Pune. His endless series of parole began from October 2013. His latest furlough ended in September last year. The frequency of his parole drew flak from various quarters, including social and political organisations.
Drugs

Sanjay lost his mother Nargis to cancer three days before the release of his debut movie Rocky in 1981. He had always been a troubled star child, but after this loss things worsened. Depression pushed him to the world of drugs and he was arrested in 1982 for five months for possession of illegal substances. After his brief jail term, he spent some time in Texas rehab clinic to overcome drug addiction.
Child Custody

After all the hullabaloo about drugs and Dons, the Vaastav star got into a legal battle for the custody of his daughter Trishala with his late wife Richa Sharma’s family. Unfortunately, he lost the case. However, his bond with the Trishala grew stronger. After his rehab days, he met Richa. The couple married and were blessed with a child, but Dutt’s happiness remained short-lived as Richa died of a brain tumour.
Love, relationships and betrayals

While shooting Saajan, Sanjay and Madhuri seemed to be quite fond of each other. However, with the news of the Khalnayak star’s involvement in the blasts case, Madhuri cornered herself from the relationship.
Just when, Sanjay seemed to put behind all the adversities and came up with good movies, the 1993 bombing row landed him in prison. In 1998, he tied the knot with model Rhea Pillai, but soon rumours of divorce started doing the round. In 2005, their wedlock hit the rock bottom and the couple parted ways. It was the same year when Sanjay’s father died of a heart attack
Drunk MMS Clip

A drunken MMS clip of Sanjay did the rounds, in which he was caught criticizing his contemporaries. This brought in more trouble for him from the industry and he faced a lot of criticism from media and B-Town folks alike.
Ties with the Underworld

When Sanjay was already mired in the 1993 blasts controversy, an audiotape of a conversation between Sanjay and Chhota Shakeel surfaced. Though the audio had nothing unusual, Dutt could be heard discussing co-star’s punctuality issues with the gangster. The incident added more fuel to the fire and time and again this incident kept on haunting the star.
Marriage with Manyata
Sanju Baba never really had a chance to enjoy a blissful marriage life, until Maanyata walked into his life. His wedlock with Manyata also raised many eyebrows. Many came forward to criticize Manyata for her past life and alleged links with the underworld. But, Sanjay paid no heed to the dead talks. He tied the knot with Manyata in a private ceremony in Goa in 2009. The couple welcomed beautiful twins in the following year.
