30 Years of Ram Lakhan: Here’s why Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit & Jackie Shroff starrer will always be an epic

One of the most iconic and epic sagas of the ’90s was Subhash Ghai’s Ram Lakhan. The movie starred Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Madhuri Dixit and Dimple Kapadia in the lead and was one of the most loved films of those times. It released on January 27, 1989, and it went on to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. Even years later, the stars of the film are remembered as the characters in the film. Anil Kapoor played the role of Lakhan, a spoilt brat loved of his elder brother played by Jackie Shroff who essays the role of a law-abiding police officer. 

They both are born to Sharda played by Rakhee who sees her husband being killed by Bhishamber and Bhima. She vows to avenge the death of her husband through her sons. However, one son is a police officer, while the other one ends up teaming up with their father’s killers and gets into trouble. In those times, the story of the movie surely was a strong point which kept the audience hooked till the end. Lakhan, the spoilt brat, falls in love with Radha in the childhood and years later, still pursues her. Despite being hated by her father, Anupam Kher, Lakhan aka Anil manages to make Radha fall for her him. She fights her own father when he decides to marry her off with Bishamber’s son. With the iconic song, Bada Dukh Dina O Ramji, Radha aka Madhuri complaints to Ram aka Jackie about his brother. Even when Lakhan cheats on her, she forgives him and continues to love him. However, the moments between Lakhan and Radha surely restore your faith in love. 

The Ultimate Happy ending: Good wins over Evil

As the saying goes,aAll's well that ends well, Ram Lakhan also follows the same rule. It is the classic tale of good winning over evil. Ram signifies good while Lakhan signifies Bad and how tables turn in the end, is what makes this movie totally epic. Ram’s love and his mother’s vow to avenge their father’s death, affects Lakhan deeply and he undergoes a change of heart. The villains, Bhishamber and Bhanu lose and the story ends on a happy note. 

All these are reasons enough to say that even 30 years later, Ram Lakhan is the ultimate entertainer.
