Fifteen years after making his ODI debut for Team India, Dinesh Karthik finally made his World Cup debut against Bangladesh in the World Cup 2019 game at Edgbaston on July 2.

The wicket-keeper made his ODI debut at Lord's against England way back in 2004, and was a part of the 2007 World Cup squad thiugh he did not play a single game. India was ousted in the first stage of the edition in 2007. He was not selected for the 2011 and 2015 World Cups.

Karthik was selected as a back-up to MS Dhoni in this tournament, but injuries to Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar, along with Kedar Jadhav's poor form meant that he was brought in for Jadhav against Bangladesh.

Karthik has played 91 ODIs to date, scoring 1738 runs at an average of just over 31.

He was a part of the Champions Trophy squads in 2004, 2009, 2013 and 2017, playing seven games.
