Dear Eonni: As BLINKS demand respect for Lisa, a fan says the BLACKPINK member induced confidence in her

If you logged into Twitter in the past 24 hours, you would have seen "#RespectLisa" trending in your country. BLINKS all over the world united to raise their voice against racist comments made on the BLACKPINK rapper. As fans continue to demand respect for the international idol, a BLACKPINK fan from the US has reached out to the rapper and confided in her. Doreen Magbato revealed in the open letter how Lisa has encouraged her to accept herself and ignited confidence in her.

Dear Lisa,

I’ve been wanting to write to you for a long time but didn’t have the courage to do so. Ever since I became a BLINK, I’ve followed your steps, as you're my role model, and not only I found a normal Thai girl, but I’ve found a 23-year old who inspired me.

Someone once told me that the reason why you chose your bias, is because you have the same personalities. I feel like that she’s right because we both like french fries, our favourite song is forever young, we also like chocolate.

You inspired me to be confident. You made me realize that not only that I’m an ordinary 12-year-old, but I have potential. You made me realize that. You also made me confident. I may not look as pretty as other girls, or have a perfect body, have a big house, or somewhat. But, I have to be confident.

Every day I look in the mirror, I tell myself that I am pretty, that I am beautiful. And that I don’t have to be like other girls to look pretty or look glamorous, but that I am me. I know that you're the only 23-year old who is Thai, out of everyone else, but that’s ok. I’m the only girl who is from the Philippines in my friend group. Everyone else in my ‘friend group’ are Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Indian. But, that is ok for me. At least that I am myself, and that I have some friends to accept who I am.

When I see you on the t.v. screen, or my phone, or my computer, and see you smiling, I smile too. I smile because I know you're happy. I know that you're happy with your unnie’s, your family, your big career, your best friends, and so many more reasons. I’m happy too. I know that we’re both grateful. Grateful, to be a part of this world. To do what we want to do. To achieve our dreams. Your eyes sparkle in the ray of sunlight, looking over at what you’ve accomplished. You accomplished a lot, Lisa.

I mean, you did spend 5 years, away from Thailand, being a trainee. You were the 2nd member of BLACKPINK, which means that you’ve gone through a hard time. But, you happened to make it through. You made it through, without hesitating. I thank you for that. I thank you for being a part of BLACKPINK and taking your role as the main rapper and lead dancer.

Whenever I hear you sing, or rap, or watch you dance, I tell myself if I can ever do that. And if I tell you that in person, I know that you will tell me that I can. Lisa is a kind person and very talented. I really want to meet you in person, and have a conversation someday in the future, but of this pandemic. It’s stopping us from the meeting. In my dreams…

You deserve nothing but support and lots of love. I can’t thank you enough for being my role model, and to inspire me. Through my bad days of depression, pain, and sadness, you help me make it through. When I think of you, I know that you will tell me to stop crying because it won’t do any good. So, I just calm down. And it helps. It helps a lot. You’ve been my inspiration throughout the years I met you. I always remember that you're the 23-year old who changed my life. And the Lalisa Manoban, you’re still the ‘maknae’ of BLACKPINK and blinks.

It melts my heart when you do that cute smile of yours. To see you so happy, and to enjoy every single part of your career. The talent that you have, makes me become special, to know that there are people that are born to do this. The perfectionist in you, says nothing but excellence. Your beauty that you have, says nothing but an angel. The kindness that you express, says nothing but empathy.

You make my bad days go by, and make me focus on the present. You are the golden Thai maknae of BLACKPINK and blinks, Lisa. The love that you give, the love that you take, the love that you show, your visuals, your presence of being here, makes my day, makes BLACKPINK’s day, and makes blink’s day.

I promise to support you no matter what, and will always be your #1 supporter with the rest of your fans. And don’t forget, that we blinks, lilies, are your family and that we will always have your back. Saranghae, Lisa.

Love,

Doreen Magbato
