International Cricket Council on Friday announced that captains will no more face the suspension for slow over-rate breach but rather the whole team will be fined.
“Captains will no longer be suspended for repeated or serious over-rate breaches.
All players should be held equally responsible for slow over rates, and as such will be fined at the same level as the captain,” an ICC statement read.
The rule will be applied with the starting of the ICC World Test Championship, which gets underway from the upcoming Ashes.
“In World Test Championship matches a team that is behind the required over rate at the end of a match will have two competition points deducted for each over it is behind,” The statement added.
According to the previous rule, two slow over-rate violations resulted in the suspension of the team’s captain. It often turned out to be troublesome for skippers as for a thing like over-rate, the whole team stands responsible.
Now, ICC, having taken note of this thing, has finally decided to amend this rule, hence equalling the effect of slow over-rate to the whole team. The ICC will next look into the exploration of the use of replays to call No balls.
