BTS, Lee Min Ho, Hyun Bin & Song Hye Kyo among most popular Korean content & stars as per international survey
An international survey was conducted to determine the most popular Korean content and stars overseas. The survey result featured BTS, Lee Min Ho, Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo.
An international survey was conducted to gauge the popularity of Korean content - music and drama - in the overseas market. As reported by Soompi, South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Culture Exchange released 2021 Overseas Hallyu (Korean Wave) Survey to reveal the popular K-pop stars, K-drama actors, Korean movies and Korean shows that have left audiences outside the country talking. The list featured BTS, Lee Min Ho, Hyun Bin, Song Hye Kyo, Crashing Landing On You and more!
The survey, as per the report, was conducted online from September 24 to November 4, 2020. There were about 8,500 Korean cultural content consumers participating in the survey from 18 countries. This includes the United States, China and Japan. The respondents were asked about television shows, films and music, among many other topics.
Participants were asked to name their favourite Korean singer and 22 per cent chose BTS. The group witnessed a rise of 6.8 per cent in points since their last year's 15.2 per cent. BLACKPINK was second (chosen by 13.5 per cent of respondents), PSY stood third with 2.9 per cent, TWICE was fourth with 2.4 per cent and EXO came in fifth with 2.1 per cent.
The King: Eternal Monarch star Lee Min Ho topped the favourite actors' list. He was chosen by 9.6 per cent of respondents. Crash Landing On You star Hyun Bin was second with 3.5 per cent, Goblin actor Gong Yoo third was picked by 2.3 per cent, Descendants of the Sun actress Song Hye Kyo stood fourth with 2.1 per cent and recently discharged actor Lee Jong Suk stood fifth 2 per cent.
K-dramas were the most popular Korean content consumed by the respondent. About 29.7 per cent of survey participants revealed they watched Korean dramas. Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin starrer Crash Landing on You led the favourite Korean drama section with a 9.5 per cent score. Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji's hit 2020 show It’s Okay to Not Be Okay stood second with 4.1 per cent. The World of the Married and Itaewon Class received a 2.8 per cent score.
As for the movies, Oscar-winning movie Parasite topped the favourite Korean movies list with 18.4 per cent. Train to Busan stood second with 10.2 per cent followed by its sequel Peninsula with 3.5 per cent stood on the third spot. Park Shin Hye's #ALIVE took the fourth spot with 2.1 per cent while Time to Hunt stood on the fifth position with 1.6 per cent.
