January - we saw two strong films and both evoked the Indian in us - Vicky Kaushal’s Uri and Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika. Uri: The Surgical Strikes is unstoppable at the box office. The film stars Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Mohit Raina and Paresh Rawal in the lead roles. The film is based on the 2016 Surgical Strikes conducted by the Indian Army against the Pakistani terror launchpads across the LoC. Manikarnika revolves around Rani Laxmibai, who fought against the East India Company and the British to prevent her kingdom of Jhansi from being conquered.  Despite all the hurdles, the movie is remaining strong at the box office.

Going by the figures, Uri in its 28 days of a successful run at the box office, has earned Rs 197.88 crores. Fans loved how Vicky played this role and his dialogue, How’s the Josh, has become a rage. Despite a less budget, the movie has done wonders at the box office. In an exclusive interview with us, Vicky told us, “I think we are living in the time where good content only gets you good money. The content if it doesn't work with the audiences eventually, the movie doesn't earn that much money. It is only the content which works with the audiences. So, I think it is a beautiful phase where content and box office money is going hand in hand, and I am very lucky to be a part of such a phase of Hindi cinema. But content has to be the priority. If the content is right and the movie is executed well, I think people are willing to pay money for that.”

Kangana’s Manikarnika has earned Rs 83 crores in 13 days of its release. The movie was a part of many controversies and is still being attacked. In an interview with us, Kangana Ranaut was asked about working as a director for the film, and she revealed that this is not the first time she worked behind the camera. "This is not my first experience as far as supervising the edit or even directing a film is concerned. I was 23 or 24 when I directed my first film. It was a 10-minute short film that I had shot with an international crew. Also at that time, I was struggling with small roles in films like Double Dhamaal (2011). So I've been a director since then. Be it direction, writing or editing, I've already done it in the past," said the actress.
