Pari Box Office Collection: Anushka Sharma's film witnesses a drop on its first Monday
Anushka Sharma's Pari finally hit the screens on Friday and is doing a decent business at the box office. Pari is estimated to be made on a budget of Rs 18 crores inclusive of prints and advertising cost.
Anushka Sharma's highly-anticipated supernatural thriller Pari has hit the screens on March 2 and the movie has been appreciated by both the critics and the viewers. The tagline of the movie, "Not a fairytale", already gave rise to a lot of speculations as to what the story is all about.
Directed by Prosit Roy, Pari tells the story of Arnab (Parambrata Chatterjee), who gives refuge to Rukhsana (Anushka Sharma), a mysterious woman found shackled in the woods, after her mother is killed in an accident involving his family. Rukhsana is hunted by a mob of men led by Dr Qasim Ali (Rajat Kapoor).
The film opened on a decent note and earned Rs 4.36 crores on day 1. As per a leading trade website, the film collected Rs 2 crore on its first Monday and in total, it has minted Rs 15.25 crore in four days of its release. Pari is estimated to be made on a budget of Rs 18 crores inclusive of prints and advertising cost. Out of the whole budget, Rs 10 crore have already been recovered through the music and satellite rights. To break even, the movie needed Rs 8 crore and anything beyond it is profitable for the film. In a nutshell, the movie is already in a profit zone.
Co-producer Arjun N Kapoor of KriArj Entertainment, said, "In many places outside Mumbai where theatres did not shut totally, they still opened only after 3 pm. But the word of mouth is so good that Saturday and Sunday will prove to be good days for this Anushka starrer. However, states like West Bengal where people celebrated Holi yesterday, have registered extremely good collections on day 1 itself."
Sanjay Chatar, the leading distributor for Central India, said, "Major cinema halls in MP and Chattisgarh areas don't play movies on the Holi day in the morning; if they begin operations they start off only at 6 pm. Rajasthan began only after 4 pm. So the film's business in these crucial territories will only emerge over the weekend."
"The film has gotten 80 percent occupancy in Pune and Thane territories, where Holi is not celebrated widely. But then again, there are places like Nizam, Mysore and others down South that are reeling under a theatre strike. Over the weekend, as the theatre strike wraps up, the film is expected to display strong business," said another trade source.
