Manto Weekend Box Office Collection: Nawazuddin Siddiqui's film fails to draw audience to the theatres
Manto, a biographical drama based on the famous Urdu author Saadat Hasan Manto, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Manto released on September 21. Read to know its first weekend collection.
Nandita Das lived the dream of making a film on Saadat Hasan Manto for years and now it has finally hit the screens after some bumpy rides. The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Manto and he is an actor who can pull off any character with an ease and this film was no different. Those who have seen the film would agree playing Manto was no cakewalk but the actor makes it feel like it was an easy job to mouth all the difficult Urdu dialogues. He has done a stellar job in portraying the character of Manto and no words can describe his act.
For every film, the biggest parameter is sadly the Box Office Collections. Talking about the day one collection, Manto has just collected Rs 45-50 lakhs net which was indeed a slow start. Now, the first weekend collection is out and to no relief, the number are low. In three days of its release, Manto has managed to earn Rs 1.95 crore at the domestic market. The movie has failed to draw the audience to the theatres. However, critics have appreciated the film and Nawaz's act.
Apart from Nawazuddin, the movie also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Rasika Dugal and Rajshri Deshpande in the key roles. The movie was also premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Nawaz recently took to Instagram and wrote, "If given an opportunity, I would love to do #MANTO yet again & this time also for free, instead would pay from my pocket to make it happen; because today I realised that #MANTO is still way ahead of our time."
We agree with what Nawaz has mentioned in his post. The movie clashed with Shahid Kapoor, Yami Gautam and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Well, if two films clash at the box office, there always is an impact.
