Gully Boy! Gully Boy! Gully Boy! Yes, the film has finally hit the big screens and it has struck the right chord with the audiences. The film is based on the lives of street rappers Naezy and Divine and shows their struggles in the truest form. Rapping is something that masses don’t really connect with, but Gully Boy is here to change that notion completely. If you have seen the film, you would know how Ranveer has completely gotten into the skin of the character. His rapping skills are unmatchable and he will make you believe that there’s nothing that Ranveer Singh cannot do. Zoya Akhtar has done a brilliant job in terms of directing it and putting out the story on the big screen.
The hype was there since inception. Well, box office numbers have lived up to the hype. The movie has earned Rs 17.50 crores on day 1. It has become the highest opener of 2019 and second highest for Ranveer after Simmba. Rohit Shetty directorial raked in Rs 22 crores on day 1. If you do the permutation and combination, Simmba had the benefit of Christmas holiday and Gully Boy released on a working day. The movie also stars Alia Bhatt who has done a brilliant job as Safeena. In a nutshell, you would like the movie for its rawness.
When Pinkvilla connected with Trade Analyst Girish Johar for the box office prediction for day 1, he said, “The movie is releasing on a non-Holiday weekend and hence I peg the movie to get an opening of around Rs 15 crore and more. If it picks up well, it can go up to 17-18 crore.” Produced by Tiger Baby Productions and Excel Entertainment, Gully Boy also features Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz and Amruta Subhash in pivotal roles.
