Chef Box Office Collection: Saif Ali Khan's film starts on a poor note on Day 1
On Day 1, Saif Ali Khan's Chef could only manage to mint INR 1.05 crore at the ticket windows.
The Indian adaptation of Jon Favreau's high-profile Hollywood hit Chef starring Saif Al Khan has finally hit the theatres. Going by the trailer of the film, it was expected that the film would do a decent job at the box office. But the figures have a different story to tell.
On Day 1, Chef could only manage to mint INR 1.05 crore at the ticket windows. Chef has been receiving mixed reviews - some critics are calling the film a bland dish and some are in favour of the film. Saif's movie is facing tough competition at the box office from Varun Dhawan-starrer Judwaa 2, which continues to fare well.
The movie will have to pick up pace on the weekend to break even. Talking about the film, Saif told a leading website, "I enjoyed it. My director wanted me to be comfortable in the kitchen. People usually cheat in movies with scenes of cutting and chopping, but we have done that well. But I found frying relatively easy, I am now an expert at it. It was such a nice atmosphere, even the dogs were excited wondering what’s happening, why is he in the kitchen. Little Taimur would also wonder what is going on, the cook was also excited."
What made him choose Chef? On these lines, Saif said, "It shows the relevant issue among urban middle classes and the upwardly mobile people who have work pressures and have trouble balancing family with work. The situation that the character is in, I found to be funny, touching, amusing, interesting. We have tried to keep the performance natural. It’s one of my best works. There is effortless acting. There is drama but we haven’t gone overboard. I like how I have done it."
