The film has surpassed the 300-crore mark at the worldwide box office in 24 days. The film, in total, minted INR 199.74 crore at the domestic market in 23 days and has crossed the 200-crore mark today. The Rohit Shetty-directed horror comedy film was released 3,500 screens in India and 732 screens in the international markets.
The story revolves around the gang of five — Gopal (Ajay), Madhav (Arshad), Lucky (Tusshar), Laxman (Shreyas) and Laxman (Kunal) - orphans who have been raised in Seth Jamnadas' orphanage in Ooty. When they return to their orphanage to mourn the death of their mentor, they hear that an avaricious builder, Vasu Reddy (Prakash Raj) and his associate, Nikhil (Neil) have designs on the ashram and the adjoining plot owned by Colonel Chouhan (Sachin Khedekar).
The jugadu (wheeler-dealer) gang decides to stall the builders. However, they realise that in their absence, some friendly ghosts too have started to reside in the area. Anna Mathew (Tabu), who can talk to spirits, acts as the guide to the gang.
In an interview, Ajay Devgn was asked whether box office expectations add pressure on him as an actor? To this, he had said, "Earlier nobody was printing it and hence it [pressure] was not there. Today you guys are printing it, and hence people have started taking numbers seriously. To me, box office numbers do matter because if you invest a certain amount, you need to recover. But that’s not the only concern for me, as even appreciation matters a lot."
